“Average Food, but great bar”

We go to Vanesse to hear Doug Montgomery play the piano, not for the food. Great piano bar. You can order food in the bar rather than eat in their pricey restaurant for average results. Doug is wonderful! A must in Sante Fe!

“Good food but a rough start”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

The food here is quite good, especially the chips with queso and the elk. The setting is lovely as well, but the music is the lounge was so loud that we could still hear it in the dining room. However, we did have a rough start with the service that colored our entire evening. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but then waited twenty minutes without any server coming by. Two waitresses were attending to ajoining tables, while we were being ignored. My husband finally got up and spoke to the host. Come to find out he had not told the appropriate server that we had been seated. Once she came over, the service was adequate.

“Where's the much loved onion loaf?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

We have been going to Vanessie for over 25 years. One of the menu items we always enjoyed was the "onion loaf". It was unique to this well known Santa Fe restaurant - a loaf of lightly fried onions. When we went there for dinner tonight, there was an "onion blossom" on the menu - an imitation of the Outback "blooming Onion" - but nothing as good as the original Vanessie onion loaf! For years we have recommended this restaurant to friends visiting in Santa Fe and always urged them to get the onion loaf, because it was such a treat. But now, what can we do? Our meal tonight was just fine and up to the usual Vanessie standard, but it was a downer not to have enjoyed one of our favorite features of this restaurant.

“One of my favorites in SF”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

I have been to SF on business and pleasure at least 60 times in the last 10 years and Vanessie continues to be one of my favorites. As usual, this experience did not disappoint us. We at the Elk and the Ravioli and both were marvelous. The Elk was proportioned right, and prepared even better. I have also had a similar dish at Geronimos in SF, but Vanessies continues to be better for less. My wife had the ravioli and she is still raving about it.

After dinner, we enjoyed relaxing and sitting in the piano bar with a glass of wine. The bring some very talented musicians, and this one was no different.

After hours of meetings, this is one place that truly makes us unwind away from the hub-ub of the plaza and routinely crowded restaurants. It is a bit of a hike, but easily accessible if from many of the hotels on the plaza (if you like to walk).

Love this place.

“fabulous piano bar!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

Sunday night is the best night at this fun piano bar. Hear Broadway show tunes and a variety of fun sing-a-long songs (Piano Man, Old Texas Town of El Paso). Doug Montgomery is very entertaining, and encourages audience participation. We arrived at 6:15pm to get a good table, and ordered a variety of heavy appetisers for our table to share, along with a couple of bottles of wine. No need to rush after you've eaten, the waiters don't expect to turn the tables. Just enjoy a wonderful atmosphere and make new friends in this popular local hangout.
