I recommend this place as a great example of "Santa Fe Style" in all respects. We visited with restaurant-savvy friends seeing Santa Fe for the first time. We were warmly greeted and well-served throughout. The menu sported a number of unusual dishes, including game meats not often seen in our travels. All the food was excellently prepared and really tasty. The setting, a real adobe building with some history to it, complemented the meal extremely well. Some evenings feature live flamenco dancers, although this wasn't the case on our Wednesday night visit.

We were at El Farol's on November 29th for the Robert Mirabal performance - Mirabal was awesome as always but the service provided by El Farol was atrocious. First, why would you have shows in the winter in the outdoor area - which, with its flimsy walls and plastic roof, is poorly heated? We were seated in an area with NO heaters close by and snow melting and water dropping on our heads. Many of us had to wear our winter jackets while we ate and watched the show!

Secondly, the food itself was not spectacular. A restaurant that charges $20-$30 per entree, and $25 for the Mirabal show, should at least provide superior dishes AND the customers should not have to sit in an ice box!

I will definitely not go to El Farol's again for dinner or a performance in their outdoor area. There are way too many classier restaurants in Santa Fe with better food.

El Farol was a welcome respite from upscale restaurants. Think bohemian. The structure is very old, interesting, and has walls at least a foot thick. The music was Blues when we went on a Tuesday and was fun. You enter directly into the bar and stage area. It is LOUD. We requested the middle dining room and we could hear the music and our dining partner's conversation. Perfect. The tapas were hit and miss. The hits were the blue cheese with honey and the beef kabobs. Misses were the fried artichoke and the sausage. The ceviche was average. More visits will result in the perfect selection of tapas. We will go again.

A great place to relax after a few hours of browsing on Canyon Road. Housed in an historic building from the 18th century you can partake inside or better yet in the summer eat on the patio and watch the action on Canyon Rd. The thing to get here is a selection of Tapas, many are very unique and very tasty

We just returned home from a fantastic week in Santa Fe, and El Farol figured prominently in our great visit to this wonderful city. Having rented a house on Canyon Rd, El Farol was instantly our neighborhood hang out. We spent time there every single night of our vacation. Yes, the food is good, we enjoyed the tapas and paella, and the great wine selection. Our server Janelle, was attentive and friendly. Parker the bartender goes above and beyond. However, you can get great food and service in a lot of places. What makes El Farol so very special is the collective energy that comes from not just the great staff and food, but the charming old building (El Farol is the oldest continuously operated restaurant in Santa Fe), the great music - I mean really great music every night of the week - and friendly clientele. If you like some dancing with your dinner, want to meet some really nice folks who live in Santa Fe, and generally just want to hang out in a very cool space, then El Farol is not to be missed. We loved every minute we spent there!
