El Farol's tapas are a treat worth stopping for on Santa Fe's Canyon Road. One has a huge choice in planning a platter of 3 or one of 6 for two. The choices include seafood, imaginative vegetables, salads, cheeses and delicious meats. The portions are generous with port or sherry infused sauces making each selection a true taste treat. El Farol's menu includes many other choices, but the tapas are the specialties of the house. Two examples were slices of perfectly cooked duck in a sweet carrot sauce or slices of tender pork tenderloin in a port fig sauce.

There was so much to choose from, but I decided on the special, prime rib. It is the best I have ever had. The rest of the table had tapas and paella and we're not disappointed.

Tapas wonderful. Paella great. Wine selection terrific. Service very good. Right on Canyon Road.

What's there not to like?

Really looking forward to this.....but it is a little off the mark. Service was ok but the food left us unsatisfied. Bread was the first indication.....definitely a frozen product. No taste. Downhill from there.....the tapas dishes were just not up to snuff. Flavors off and presentation uninviting. The kitchen needs some help. We did enjoy a nice bottle of wine. Skipped desert. Live music was loud....so if you want to talk I recommend that you sit away from the live music.

My son's rehearsal dinner was held here for about 30 people in a separate room from the rest of the restaurant. A bar was set up to serve Sangria, Margaritas, and wine. Hors d'oeuvres were passed and tapas for dinner and dessert were served at the tables. The atmosphere was unique given the location on Canyon Road, the historic and rustic nature of the building, and the murals on the wall depicting flamenco dancing. My favorite was a painting of a Day of the Dead flamenco dancer. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! As parents of the groom, we paid for the affair and it was less than we thought it would be - a great value! The event planner was very accommodating and the staff helped us set up a screen to project pictures of the wedding couple. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening!
