“Authentic New Mexican Food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

The reviews in numerous sources promised an old style restaurant loaded with charm and excellent food also noted Tequilas and Margaritas. We found all to be true. In fact we dined there twice during our stay in Santa Fe. The restaurants charm lies in it's historic building components, quaint bar and superb service. We had memorable meals on both occasions. Good food, good service and great Margaritas. Cold beer also.

“What happened?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

The day had passed too quickly when my wife asked if I were hungry. Maria's Kitchen came to mind and we were not far from the location. The restaurant is a bit hard to find if one is not looking for it, kind of off two streets at the same time. The following link
http://www.marias-santafe.com/ provides their web site and map location. My wife & I frequent this eatery on a regular basis but this day did not live up to their prior history of excellent food. There were few vehicles in the parking lot at 3:00pm. The hostess led us through the normal dinning areas to a table in the bar. The empty dinning areas should have been a flag and a reminder of the late time of the day! My observation is that bars are not the best places to dine. My wife ordered the Tacos while I requested "stuffed sopapillas." My wife asked for and received a replacement for one of her tacos (it fell apart) while the sopapillas tasted more like, well - cardboard. Previous lunch and diner occasions were so much better then this visit. Everyone deserves a second chance and so shall Maria's.

“Did anyone say tequilla?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

For an authentic Mexican feel, this is a great place to go. They offer flights of tequila, with a menu that must list 100 different types of tequila from which to choose. Since it was lunchtime, we stayed with the great margaritas and freshly made chips. Don't miss the guacamole either. So good you could eat it with a spoon. The portions here are very large, so I could only fit in the enchiladas and had to forgo the side of rice and beans. Frajitas are large sizzling platters of freshly prepared ingredients. Each dish come with fry bread, which was hot and not at all greasy. Be sure to try it with the honey.

“good food popular with the locals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

This is a happening place with great atmosphere and great food! We had a large party so we made reservations and we were glad we did. They seated us in our own little room which was perfect for giving the feel of a family dinner. The food was fabulous and not too expensive. Overall a really lovely, authentic experience for dinner in Santa Fe.

“Dinner”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

We hadn't gone there in a while. The experience was disappointing this time: huevo rancheros very basic with hard tortillas, tamales tasting like frozen food and uninteresting, the posole was OK and so were the margaritas and the steak taken by one of us. Not as good an experience as I remembered last time we went a year ago. Not sure we'll go back.
