I agree that if you are not used to the buffet and weigh set up at Saveur it can seem a bit strange at first. For example, poached salmon with dill sauce was on the menu for the day, but it threw me off that none was out on the buffet. They got it for me happily when I asked. There are several restaurants in Santa Fe that have their own way if doing things and this is one. It does make for a bit pricey meal but the food is of high quality and the setting seems european or like a small NYC place. Dark wood paneling and lace. Very traditional what used to be called 'continental' cuisine. I agree that the owner can feel intrusive but really just assessing what you are interested in so relax and pick what you'd like. They are really very accomodating.

If your lunch bunch has diverse tastes, this is the place for you! Multiple soups, salads, sandwiches and hot selections makes this a great choice. Desserts are not to be missed! Friendly service adds to the pluses. Go!

The food was very well done. I had the buffet which was weighed at the end of the line. I also had a glass of wine and dessert. My lunch tab was $32. If you wanted soup and salad or one of the specials you could probably have lunch for around $15.
This is much more upscale than a typical buffet-maybe too pricey and gourmet for a couple with kids- it is made for a quiet yummy downtown lunch. An upside is free parking in the attached lot.

I am a vegetarian, almost vegan, and the food was so great. They had a carrot salad and marinated beets that were the best I've ever eaten. They also made a mocha for us with almond milk. This restaurant has plenty of choices for regular meat eaters. As such, it's a great place for anyone.
