Perhaps being from Austin TX creates a little higher expectation when it comes to Mexican food. Granted Austin is famous for TexMex and this may be considered just Mexican, but I'll have to agree with several comments which labeled this restaurant mediocre and somewhat flavorless.
My girlfriend and I came in somewhat early finding only four tables occupied. The service was very good - attentive. We had chips and salsa first. The salsa was mild but tasty. I ordered the "special" which was trout. It was cooked well but only had sautéed tomatoes and onions on top. The grilled veggies were ok but heavy on onion. The black beans and rice were fine. But that's it. Nothing at all to write about. No flavor. In fact I had to salt it to provide a little flavor. My girlfriend had the salmon smothered in garlic. It was slightly overcooked and had the same identical sides. Yawn!
We both love "joints" and you have to FIND this one-- hidden in the back of a small shopping area. They have beer wine and wine margaritas. Not tequila Rita's. Our house wine we had was good.
I don't know. Maybe it's worth another shot. A lady near us said the mole enchiladas were good. Shrug. Or maybe the other more positive reviewers don't enjoy Mexican as often as we do. Perhaps we are TexMex snobs! But I would bet other Texans would agree with us.
