“Not So Mucho Gusto”
Reviewed November 29, 2012 via mobile

Perhaps being from Austin TX creates a little higher expectation when it comes to Mexican food. Granted Austin is famous for TexMex and this may be considered just Mexican, but I'll have to agree with several comments which labeled this restaurant mediocre and somewhat flavorless.

My girlfriend and I came in somewhat early finding only four tables occupied. The service was very good - attentive. We had chips and salsa first. The salsa was mild but tasty. I ordered the "special" which was trout. It was cooked well but only had sautéed tomatoes and onions on top. The grilled veggies were ok but heavy on onion. The black beans and rice were fine. But that's it. Nothing at all to write about. No flavor. In fact I had to salt it to provide a little flavor. My girlfriend had the salmon smothered in garlic. It was slightly overcooked and had the same identical sides. Yawn!

We both love "joints" and you have to FIND this one-- hidden in the back of a small shopping area. They have beer wine and wine margaritas. Not tequila Rita's. Our house wine we had was good.

I don't know. Maybe it's worth another shot. A lady near us said the mole enchiladas were good. Shrug. Or maybe the other more positive reviewers don't enjoy Mexican as often as we do. Perhaps we are TexMex snobs! But I would bet other Texans would agree with us.

“Intimate Mexican restaurant with good prices and very nice food”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

An unpretentious little restaurant, a few blocks off the main square, this place features warm and prompt service and interesting food at a very good price.

“Solid restaurant off the beaten path”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

I've eaten at Mucho Gusto several times. It has never disappointed. It tends not to draw the tourist crowd, but offers good New Mexican cuisine in a casual, uneventful setting. I don't eat at Mucho for the atmosphere (it's very plain), but for the good food.

“Wonderful”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Our hotel desk guy recommended it as a place that HE ate at... So, on our first night in Santa Fe, tired from a long day of travel, we went. Happy to have done so. It's an unpretentious place with friendly and solid service, not expensive, and the food is tasty, cooked with an understanding of New Mexico cuisine, attractive, and just great. Just what we needed. A little difficult to find, but if we could do it, anybody can. A nice thing: the patrons are just as friendly as the staff. A very casual place.

“Yum!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Delicious traditional and not so traditional southwestern food. The mole chicken is to die for, also the Creamed Chicken Suizze (Swiss) enchiladas! Great place for lunch or supper, good service, easy parking (rare in Santa Fe!) and a good value.
