Description: The Famous Green Chile Cheeseburgers are back! John and Bonnie Eckre, formerly of Bobcat Bite, are taking their food to the next level at the new Santa Fe Bite located inside Garrett's Desert Inn on Old Santa Fe Trail. In addition to their savory Green Chile Cheeseburgers, Santa Fe Bite features fresh tacos, fish and chips, sandwiches, a choice of French or sweet potato fries and a little something they like to call 'The Big Bite' that comes with a side of buttery garlic bread. Creamy milkshakes and homemade lemonade are just some of the sweet treats popping up on their new menu. Also, we are now serving beer and wine. Santa Fe Bite opens at 8am Saturday and Sunday which means early birds can sample tasty Breakfast menu offerings like hot cornmeal pancakes with maple syrup, brioche French toast with maple caramel sauce and house-made biscuits with Mom's gravy. Spend a leisurely Sunday outside at Santa Fe Bite. The new Brunch menu includes eggs benedict, Steak & Eggs and Huevos Rancheros.

We went to Santa Fe with a couple of other couples for the weekend. Decided to go to Santa Fe Bite after reading something somewhere about it having a "burger that you should eat before you die". Admittedly, this claim had a lot to live up to but we were excited.

Upon entering the restaurant, I had my doubts as to how it would turn out. It was very clean, don't get me wrong, but really kind of sterile maybe? The server was a friendly kid but I think it was busy and maybe he was overwhelmed so that was not great. I think it was the owner who came and checked on us a couple of times which was a nice touch.

So all of that was fine. What wasn't fine was the food. It was an okay burger, nothing great. Not bad, but not really good either? Kind of dry actually. The bun was good. The shakes were amazing! Didn't like the cut of the fries at all. Never thought that would bug me as much as it did? Just think that there has to be a better burger somewhere in this town?

It must have been a big transition to go from a small 15-20 seat restaurant that was homey and where John and Bonnie knew their patrons and interact with their customers, and they still do! We enjoyed delicious green chili cheeseburgers and the fabulous home chips after flying from Maui. . Bonnie came right over and chatted, while John was busy meeting, greeting and serving others. The place was packed and had a line nearly out the door. . It only took 10 minutes to be seated and the service was prompt, efficient and the food just exactly as we remembered. .actually the new grilled bun is outta this world. . . just wish they would consider making a smaller burger 5 oz. . as the 10oz is just huge. . .The new location is colorful, upbeat, welcoming, comfortable and sooo easy to get to, right down town, love it. So thrilled for them and we know they will be wildly successful in their new home.

As Bobcat Bite, the restaurant was eclectic and had a good energy. The new BITE in Santa Fe, has a decent burger, but has devolved into just another tourist trap, nothing special dive in town. We went in on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. "A 15 minute wait," we were told, as was anyone who showed-up behind us. We decided to join the group table but when we realized the place STILL didn't serve beer, we ordered 2 green chili cheese burgers to go. The "be ready in 20 minutes" took 30.

We got home, unpacked and I was surprised to see a $12 cheeseburger have the cheapest possible mustard anyone in the world could buy. The burger was good, but way way too little green chili.

For Santa Fe BITE, the juice just ain't worth the squeeze. Over-priced and average; way tpp crowded.

Fabulous green chile cheese burgers (huge: 10oz), cooked to-order and served with so-so chips, but a terrific bun. All in all, this is the perfect green chile burger, in a town that has several contenders (including famously the Shed).

This new location is a 3 minute walk from the SF Plaza, just south of the river opposite the Inn of Five Graces. It's in a motel (OK to use their parking lot).

Also good -- the vanilla malt (albeit a bit small for $5.75). No alcohol, though.

The burgers aren't cheap at $11.50, but they're excellent and entirely filling.
