After plenty of wonderful Southwestern cuisine, we were brought here by our local friends. While the service was sometimes a bit slow on this very busy holiday weekend, the waiter was friendly and quite helpful in discussing selections. Our favorite appetizer was on the specials menu - baked stuffed squash blossoms with local goat cheese & tomato-basil coulis. It's worth a return trip just for this. The porcini mushroom manicotti sounded better than it was. It was an ok, but not great entree. However, all of the other pastas we had were very good - the gorgonzola & walnut ravioli, the pumpkin ravioli, and the squid ink spaghetti with calamari were all hits with our crowd. Yes, I would return.

One long block north of the Plaza, then in the middle of the side street block...you wouldn't know where to look if you didn't know it were there.
Can't speak for dinner, but can't conceive it's anything but excellent after having lunch there twice -- found it by accident, then didn't see the need to look for anything else on our final day in the city. Excellent foods, friendly and efficient staff, wide variety of country Italian recipes...unimaginable 'find' in the American Southwest!
If you go for lunch, focus ONLY on the 3-course prix fixe ($17): either one entree, one appetizer, and one dessert, or one entree and two appetizers...but you can 'mix and match' any of the entrees, appetizers, or desserts from both their 'standard' and their 'specials' menus. If you don't like country Italian food, go for the wines, at least, but if you do like country Italian foods, this is the ONLY place to go in Santa Fe and any of the surrounding communities!

This was not our first visit to this restaurant. We keep going back even though it can sometimes miss the mark on food and service. We started with the grilled calamari salad which was delicious. It had a nice grilled flavor served on a bed of fennel. The heirloom tomatoes in another appetizer were disappointing for they looked like normal grocery store tomatoes, not even fully ripe. The grilled prosciutto trout entree is exquisite. It is stuffed with rosemary and the whole table got a whiff of the rosemary and wished they had ordered the trout. The penne rigate was tasty but was not hot when it was served. The sausage pieces were on the rim of the dish and actually were cool instead of warm. The biggest disappointment was the porcini cannelloni special which was scorched on the bottom. The pasta was so tough we needed a knife to cut it and even then it was hard to cut. We should have sent it back, but it makes you wonder what kind of restaurant kitchen would serve a dish that should have gone into the trash and charged almost $30 for it? Luckily the tiramisu is so heavenly it erased the bad burnt pasta memories. The service was a little uneven. Our waiter brought the dessert menu and then disappeared for a long time. The beverage pourers were ever-present however and the staff delivering the food to the table were good at knowing where to place the food. All in all a pleasant but not award winning experience.

I recently had the pleasure of taking a Santa Fe cooking class/waling tour of a few SF restaurants, of which il Piatto was one. Filled with enthusiasm and professionalism, the owner, Galern Dauber, gave us a fabulous, four food and wine tasting demonstration. His wine stewart was equally impressive. One of il Piatto's local farm distributors also spoke. You could tell how exceptionally proud Galen is for serving the most unique, fresh and outstanding food.

I returned for dinner one evening and continued to be impressed with the quality of the food and presentations. How any of the Yelp reviews can be negative is totally beyond me! I have taken food and wine classes and have dined all over the world. I would gladly match il Piatto's food with the best I have had.

My server was impeccably knowledgeable and attentive. Each course was distinct and delicious. Prices were in line for the quality and variety of the offerings.

In my estimation you will be exceptionally pleased to diner at il Piatto's. If Galen is there, say hello to him. He exudes personality and caring.
