“Delicious, cramped, and a bit pricy”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

When I go out for an expensive meal, I like a little elbow room, I felt like a sardine at Il Piatto. With a crowded restaurant and a good number of wait staff, it wasn't easy to enjoy the very delicious food that was wonderfully prepared. My husband had the roasted chicken. Our waiter warned us that it would take a little longer since it was prepared from scratched. We didn't think it took that long. I had the walnut and gorgonzola ravioli... another fabulous dish. I thought the desserts were very overpriced at nearly $10. We ordered bread pudding with nuts and dried fruit. There was barely any fruit and neither of us noticed any nuts. The bread pudding was more of a custard or flan than bread pudding, once the caramel sauce was scapped off (which did not taste very good), the custard tasted very good. The service was good, but our waiter did seem put our that we didn't drink alcohol.

“Great country Italian Food!”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

This was my second trip to Il Piatto, and I was not disappointed. The food was great, and the service was perfect. Get the chicken livers! Truly a gem! We also had the gnocchi which were superb.

“Stick with the appetizers”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

As reviewers have stated, the half price after 9 prix fix deal is a good one but we wanted to dine before 9 so we opted for the $32 package. In retrospect, we would have just ordered appetizers. We each had something different and shared and they were all excellent. The entrees, however, didn't measure up. The trout tasted as though it had been prepared earliner in the day and re-heated. The risotta was just rice with shrimp. Every dish was way too sweet. I know that chilis are used in every dish, but sometimes enough is enough with sweet appetizers and then sweet entrees.

I would give it another try, but I would stick with the appetizers and make a meal of them.

“food is fine but the service is appalling”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

we walked in for lunch and it seemed none of the staff wanted to seat us down. we were the only one in line at the time. the women servers were simply rude and you could hear them yelling when they went back to the kitchen. there was a young male server who obviously seemed like he was not getting proper training but was keen to learn. the food was fine and decent. we had to walk up to the staff to ask for our bill and then it was wrong too boot. terrible overall experience. it was sad cause we came here 4 years ago and loved it.

“Good Friends Good Food”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We flew all the way to Santa Fe from South Carolina - just to have dinner with friends who now live in the Santa Fe area. Of all the great restaurants in SF, they chose their favorite to take us too. We had an amazing evening. The food was amazing (Yum on the gorgonzola ravioli), the selection of wine was extensive, and our waiter was relaxed and fun. Our friends were correct - this restaurant was wonderful.
