“It's a little bit like heaven...”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Okay - this is my 2nd time visiting Kakawa and I need to share what a fun experience it can be. Although I feel that their chocolates (edible) are a little overpriced, they are absolutely delicious and worth every penny. The drinking chocolates are what really matters - they have a selection almost like a coffee board listing the different milks, flavors, herbs, etc. I had the Italian (citrus-y) while my friend had American and my boyfriend had Mayan (very spicy!) To compare it to hot chocolate would be an absolute crime! I got a small ($3.25, equivalent to a shot of espresso) but my friend and boyfriend got a larger size ($6.25, wayyy too much chocolate for me, I would have been wired!) but the nice part is that the staff lets you sample different flavors until you settle on one, and then help you decide based on what flavors you like. Definitely a must for chocolate lovers and people just looking for a different experience!

And as for the chocolates, if you're going to get anything get the chocolate dipped chili-pepper. It's hot, but amazing!

“One of a kind Santa fe experience”

You will never have better chocolate in any form in the US, than at Kakawa. Don't skip the chocolate drinks (hot or cold) & feel free to ask for explanations/history. Staff are friendly & enthusiastic. Take some of everything home!

“Hand-made Chocolate Elixirs!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This place is a chocolate lover's dream, from the hand-made elixirs to the hand-made chocolates. The drinks are the star though! A daily array of Meso-American and European chocolate elixirs that you can sample prior to choosing. And the choice WILL be difficult - one is better than the other! Amazing!

“Not your mother's hot chocolate!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Kakawa serves traditional Meso American sipping chocolates in a variety of interesting flavors from chili to rose as well as the standards. These are nothing like the traditional hot chocolate from your childhood. you'll never think of chocolate in quite the same way. Lovely owners, samples to try before you select your cuppa. the small size is light and satisfying. go for the bigger one if you need more chocolate sustenance! Just the thing for a break from the craziness of Canyon Road.
