“Once in a lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

My wife and I had to make some last-minute vaction plan changes. Suddenly, Santa Fe was on our list.

The night before the changes, I happened to see a brief Samantha Brown review of the Inn of Five Graces. It was some kind of show about the best places a bunch of travel personalities had been but were unknown to most folks. I couldn't believe how over-the-top this place looked on TV. Reviews on Trip Advisor were glowing. So I thought, why not?

The Inn's web site is heinous beyond belief. Terrible. Can't use it. Fortunately, I gave up and did a room search via Trip Advisor. I was surprised to find a really afordable price if we stayed 2 nights during the week. Just so happened to be exactly what we needed. Booked it through Expedia.

It was still expensive for us, but worth it! This is one of those rare places that you need to just reach deep into your pocket for once in your life.

Outside is understated old Santa Fe elegance as is the office and breakfast areas. The guest rooms, however, are way, way over the top. Southwest meets middle east in a head-on collision. But so much thought went into each detail. It's no mistake. It's really something!

You will feel like you are in some other world while inside your room. Rooms also have wood-burning fireplaces, which was great for us during November. (Don't worry, they also have central heat and air). The staff is very attentive and will even build a fire in that fireplace for you if you wish. Or will leave you completely alone if you wish. Whatever you want.

If you aren't amazed at this place, I really think that there is something wrong with you!

Dear Even_Stephen,

Thank you from everyone here at the Inn for your compliments and comments of your stay with us. It is always rewarding to hear the specifics of a guests experience that were memorable and important enough to review. It is also very helpful to us as well as other travelers. As for our website, our apologies for the problems you experienced. We are working to develop a new, more user friendly site and hope to have that accomplished in the coming year. We love to talk directly to our guests so should anyone have any technical issues we invite you to give us a call directly to assist with your booking needs. We hope that your visit with us is not only once-in-this-lifetime and that we will have the pleasure of seeing you again one day. Until then we wish you happy and safe travels and a happy New Year.

The Inn was beautiful. The service was excellent and breakfast dining a treat. I have never had an experience of such personal service as I experienced here, This Inn was an indulgence fior my husband and I, well worth it!

Room Tip: Cater to needs of all travelers, pets or special needs.

We recently celebrated our anniversary with a trip to Santa Fe. Our stay at the Inn of the Five Graces exceeded our expectations. We stayed a three room suite and enjoyed a full kitchen, living room and bedroom with a fireplace decorated beautifully in a southwestern style. The entire resort is beautifully appointed and so conveniently located. Breakfast each morning was delicious and we found treats in our room every night. The concierges were helpful and spot on with their recommendations. Everyone that was part of the staff was friendly, professional, and so helpful. We loved every minute of our stay and cannot wait to go back...

This property is located in the center of Santa Fe, walking distance to restaurants, shopping and sites. We walked everywhere and felt very comfortable walking late at night (3 women). Our room (Amber) had two bedrooms and one bath with a living room and mini fridge/sink area. The beds are very comfortable and the linens are very nice. A choice of pillows on the bed for your use. Black out drapes allowed us to sleep in. The bath had a deep soak tub and a large shower with two sinks. The bathroom products should of been more upscale for the price of the room, we had to call the desk for wash cloths the first night and they were quickly brought to the room and the following days the wash cloths were plentiful. The living room has a fireplace that we enjoyed every night and we could call ahead and the staff would have a fire burning for us when we arrived. We enjoyed sitting in the living room with the fire blazing and enjoying a glass of wine. I was disappointed that the mini bar selection was soda chips and snickers candy bars (the exception being some brie cheese). Maybe the staff would consider some local wine/beer and local chocolates? The lobby is across the street where we enjoyed free breakfast daily included with our room. Breakfast is very nice in a pleasant room with attentive service. Breakfast is ordered from the menu and includes a few choices of eggs/oatmeal/granola/fruit/grits etc. The coffee is excellent and we were able to have a pot delivered to our room. There is one very small television in the room, again for the price of the room a larger screen is called for. My only gripe would be dust, I set my hat on the closet shelf and a cloud of dust appeared. I understand a fire in the fireplace daily can increase the dust level but this should be addressed. The staff was very accommodating. The room would of been perfect had it been dusted properly and charged a more appropriate rate. The common areas are lovely and inviting.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, I suggest the top floor, as the property is 200 years old the floors cre...

Dear FastGirl39,

Thank you for your review and detailed comments. The time you have taken allows us to progress and to provide further information to future guests of our amenity options. It is always helpful to hear when any detail was missed as it allows us to examine and hone our guest service to an even higher standard. Please accept our sincere apologies for the issue of dust that you encountered during your stay. Being in the beautiful Southwest does have its issues and dust is certainly one of them. While we strive to make certain that every possible surface is attended to, we in this case missed and for that we are sorry. We have already addressed the issue with our housekeeping staff and have created a more regular schedule for further tackling the dust in those high places.
We agree with you that wine or beer in the mini-fridges would be a wonderful idea. However, due to state laws we are unfortunately unable to provide this as an amenity. We do however have a fantastic wine and beer selection available in our main Guest Services and Dining Building.
We hope the local brand of our bathroom products did not portray a lesser product, than a name-brand. We are very proud to offer the Desert Blend amenities as they are made locally in Taos blended with natural ingredients collected within the region, which is something not many “upscale” name-brands can claim. We do our best to support local businesses, especially those striving for a fine product offering.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to address some of your concerns and thank you for all the kind words about your stay. We wish you the very best in the New Year and would love to have you back with us should you visit Santa Fe again.

Blessings,
The Seret Family

This was our first visit ever to Santa Fe... I have browsed the web, tripadvisor, consulted friends to find the right Hotel for our 3 day stay in Santa Fe, and we did.
> Upon arrival, a very friendly and accommodating welcome by our Kenyan friend the receptionist. Lovely surprise, an upgrade to a small and cozy suite with a working fireplace and kitchenette, enabling a night 'at home'.
. It all went beyond our expectations.
> The hotel is spread out over different buildings, 10 minutes easy walk to "downtown" central square, is tastefully decorated with a well chosen mix of oriental and local New Mexico Indian furniture, curtains and antiques, giving a warm and comfortable feeling.
> The comfortable kingsize size bed, with the "sleep" lounge music switched on during the turn down service gave us a well earned rest at the end of the long discovery days...
> We very much enjoyed our glass of fine wine at the fireplace, before going out for dinner.
> The friendly reception staff did all possible to help us finding and reserving a nice upmarket restaurant in town...The hotel does not have a restaurant nor bar, which is not a problem since there are plenty available in walking distance...They do offer breakfast which was a feast as well..
> We can highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Santa Fe, having a preference for the rooms in the main house.

We had high expectations for the Inn of the Five Graces, and they were exceeded. The Inn is actually a series of buildings focused around several different courtyards. The result is that around every corner there is a charming vignette, whether it be a fountain, a sculpture, or a porch swing. The decor of our room, Aria, was a layering of tiles and colors and textures unmatched in my experience. It may sound a bit chaotic, but it all worked!

The Inn is a short walk to town, breakfast is included in the rate and is fantastic and plentiful. Most mornings we had a large bowl of fresh fruit, and either steel cut oatmeal or their signature huevos rancheros.

SPECIFIC DELIGHTS:
--The wood burning fireplace in the room. We used it every morning and night. Incredible to go to sleep to the sounds of a crackling fire, and wonderful to wake up in the morning with a newspaper, a cup of coffee, and again, that fire.
--The turndown service. Every night was something different. My favorite was the chocolate covered strawberries.

PARTICULAR DISAPPOINTMENTS:
--Not a one.

Room Tip: Our room was the Aria suite, right off the main courtyard. The woodburning fireplace and comfy fires...

Only about 30 rooms in this city inn, each one is decorated differently, conjuring up images of "Arabian Nights". we were concerned, having viewed photos on the inn's website that the decor might be too over-the-top, but we were delighted with the reality of the stunning rooms. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. And the inn is within reasonable walking distance of just about anything you'd want to see in the historic section of Santa Fe. This all comes with a very hefty price tag, but we thought the experience justified the cost.
