My husband and I spent our first morning in New Mexico on a Saturday field trip at the center. Not only did we see a few "life" birds, the friendly staff made sure I was well prepared to find other birds I wanted to find throughout the state. Traveling from Washington State, we were so blessed to have the support and guidance of experienced birders we met at the center. Thanks Cheryl!

This is our second visit. We enjoyed a lengthy conversation with a lovely volunteer with a vast knowledge of the local bird- and wildlife. We then embarked on an excellent trail and encountered several bird species unknown in our area, as well as many stops of interest, many with interpretive signage. After days of gallery-hopping and museum-going, try this place for a refreshing change.

Arrived there about 3:50pm & the gift shop area was closed. Couldn't pick up literature to aid with ID of many birds. There were pamphlets outside- but just with general info & a Newsletter. Did not see many birds at this time of day.is was an OK short hike!!

Even without hiking into the nearby Santa Canyon, we were able to see quite a few species of birds in the area around the classrooms and gift shop thanks to the well-stocked feeder.

If you want to get in a short hike in fairly easy-moderate terrain near the city, this is a great place. Free bird-watching outings Saturday mornings led by volunteer guides...a lovely wildlife garden that attracts birds year-round....a nice gift shop/bookstore with anything native to the area. I always arrive in need of some peace and leave happy. Not far from another set of trails for those wishing more hiking and not far from Canyon Road for gallaries.
