I visit the audubon society every summer when visiting Santa Fe. It is free admission, although they do have a suggested donation to help with costs. The volunteers that I have run into there are always more than willing to talk birds and animals and are very knowledgable about the local wildlife. The hummngbird feeders and bird feeders close to the visitors center are especially satisfying for amateur birdwatchers like myself as many different birds are there and gives one a good chance to see them up close. The loop path is an easy walk with benches, but not shaded so it can get warm. There is a spur trail that extends into the woods for those who have more time. This path is not as well maintained as it is just that, a hiking trail. I have seen deer, big birds, small birds and just some quiet time away just a short trip from the Plaza/Canyon Road. The store is well stocked and you can borrow binoculars too!
