The stairs, the stairs...it is worth the visit. William S nailed it. Logical brains cannot make sense of them. I like the concept that it was a miraculous visit from St. Joseph.

“Amazing Grace!”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

As a general contractor, I was appreciated the chapel's simple beauty and elegance, but was completely confounded as to how the famous steps could possibly support themselves.

Their design and execution are just not possible, yet there they are, and I challenge you to go see for yourselves, and see if YOU can logically or structurally explain how they "work". And,. by all means, read the short story of their construction available in the book store!

“Go for the stairs”

Not much to say about the Loretto Chapel besides the stairs, which is totally worth the admission to see and experience. Fascinating.

“Beautiful church and "miraculous" staircase”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

The history of the church and religious order is very interesting. The legend of the staircase is a beautiful story (but if you know anything about engineering, will realize it is not a miracle that it stands as it does...it is just physics!) the craftsmanship of the staircase is absolutely beautiful and is worth seeing.
