Definitely make time to stop at the Loretto Chapel to see the marvelous spiral staircase. The remainder of the Chapel is also very interesting, but the staircase is breathtaking.

“Amazing”

We had heard of the staircase in this Chapel and needed to see for ourselves . It is so impressive a real work of art . Not only was the workmanship astonishing but a mystery surrounds the actual builder of this fabulous piece .You see it and you cannot explain how it was built. A must see to believe.

“Good for a respite from the sun/heat, otherwise...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

Entry to the church is $3, paid at the door. The claim to fame is the "miraculous" staircase that stands without any visible means of support. Since I understand the mechanics of how the staircase works, it wasn't terribly "miraculous" to me. In addition, the church was packed, so it was difficult to see the staircase. The church itself is quite small and while pretty in a white wedding cake style, there is nothing special about it.

If you are looking to get out of the heat and sun or to take a break from shopping, it would be worth a stop. If you are looking for an interesting church, you'd be better off going to the St. Francis Cathedral/Basilica (which is well worth viewing).

“Do not miss this wonder of Santa Fe”

Stop and view this staircase, pray and wonder how it supports itself. If you are lucky enough to be there when there are few other people, the mystery abounds
