We wanted to see the Loretto Chapel but this is only a short distance away. Well worth the walk. It was crowded but if you like Cathedral's don't miss it.

Absolutely gorgeous! If you go to the plaza it is a must see. They were having mass while we were there but you were allowed to come in anyway.

There is no reason at all to miss this attraction if you are in downtown Santa Fe. In fact, it is almost impossible to miss. The grounds are lush and beautiful and the cathedral is huge and impressive. I am not a religious person, so the intimidation factor of this place was not a factor at all, but no one can fail to be impressed by the sheer magnitude of this building. The gift shop had the usual junk, including a laughable looking CD which will give you a finger wagging in the face about the horrors, disgrace and sin of premarital sex. I'll pass on the strict Catholic instruction, but this is a magnificent building, no gods seen, required or acknowledged.

Daily Mass is conducted in the Chapel on the side of the main Cathedral. The altar art depicts the life of St. Joseph, the patron in whose care the "house" is placed. Santa Fe is in many ways a small town, and the Cathedral's bells mark every 15 minutes throughout the day for all in town. Special statue commemorating St. Kateri Tekakwitha in the front of the cathedral is especially interesting.

Lovely gardens, stone labyrinth, and sculptures. Well worth a stroll around the grounds. It's a nice break from all the shops! and pretty to visit in the quiet of the morning before the town wakes up.
