“Old world charm in the new world.”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

The cathedral is a great example of colonial Spanish Architecture. It reminded us a lot of the cathedral in Cusco, Peru. The prayer garden is worth spending some time reflecting and praying at each of the sculptures. Everything at this cathedral is free, unlike the privately owned Laredo Chapel down the street. We went for the Sunday service, as well as the prayer gardens. We went once at night as well, to see it lit up with Christmas lights.

“Elegant Historic Cathedral”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Visiting all the various churches in Santa Fe is a historic treat, but not complete without visiting St Francis Cathedral. The recent interior renovations have transformed the old majesty into the present.

“Extensive reliquary & oldest Madona in US”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

The Basilica location makes it easy to visit, although we had to go the 2nd day because we hadn't counted on it closing so early. (7am & 5:15pm services, doors are open 9-4:30). The relics on display are amazing, and the fact that they are not in a vault or another part of the church where one would have to pay an extra fee is really something unique. La Conquistadora is the small statue in the side chapel (if you're looking at the alter, to the left in the same building, it's also clearly marked with signs). La Conquistadora is the oldest representation of the Virgin Mary in the United States, arrived in Santa Fe 1625 from Spain by Franciscan missionaries. The vicinity to the Loretta staircase is also good for a visit by Catholics & non Catholics alike.

“Very nice”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Great architecture, cool maze in front, the stained glass and wood work was really cool. It was Christmas so we did not go in the sanctuary.
