Family run place - great departure from chain motels. We met interesting people at breakfast, enjoyed the comforts of the room and hospitality of staff. A true 1950's Wild West Motel! (And right next door to Jackalope....an eclectic shopping experience!)

I was looking for a basic hotel that was safe, clean, and comfy. i looked on trip advisor like i always do when i am trying a new hotel. And saw this place had good reviews. And everyone was right. My check in was very quick and staff was very friendly.

I had a room that i could drive up to which i liked. I had a refridge and microwave in my room. the bed was very comfortable and nice clean, thick, high tread count sheets and pillow cases.
I have no complaints and the price was right. $52.00 with tax.

What a great little find. This is not the Hilton, but it is convenient, clean, friendly and quintessentially funky! Loved the owners too, they couldn't be more helpful..

....so I know not to expect new furnishings or fancy amenities found at newer motels.

That said, and while it was obvious the owners have made an effort to use shabby-chic to their advantage, chic is missing.

And the room smelled bad (not from smoking; not sure what it was -- old carpet? -- but it was unpleasant.)

Also, the room was poorly lit which probably added to its drab appearance. There was a weak overhead bulb and two bedside lamps, one of which had to be unplugged so I could use my laptop (all the electric outlets in the room are being used; there are none in the bathroom).

On the plus side, (in the dim light) the room appeared to be clean, and the bed was comfortable. Friendly owners, too.

Nice people, good rates, clean room. I was disappointed about was not being able to find their Free HBO station. I was told that there were new cable boxes but that the cable company failed to leave them cards with channel information. I don't have cable at home so when I am traveling, I do appreciate this as a luxury.

This is our second annual stay at the Silver Saddle, from Sep. 3-8. Overall, the Saddle offers services more commonly found in fancy Bead-and-Breakfasts than with a typical “budget” motel. So what makes it stand out? Budget travelers rely on affordable rates, and $59/night (high season) is very competitive for budget motels, especially in the Santa Fe area. Next, the Saddle has completed recent important upgrades, including a very nice ramada (enclosed sun porch area) where one can enjoy their continental breakfasts, served from 7-10A. Also, a software program was installed to better manage their reservations, improving reservation entry and overall usage. These upgrades demonstrate the Saddle’s commitment to their guests.
However, THE most exemplary commitment is true staff service. Dawn, Ted, Miguel and owner Penny are long-time natives, are approachable, and patiently offer up-to-date, knowledgeable answers to various guest queries, no matter how ridiculous or trivial. They understand that proper guest orientation plays a major role in their guest’s overall enjoyment of the area (while increasing the likelihood for return business), most especially true for less prepared guests.
Their suggestions on shopping/sightseeing/restaurants/local events/parking/navigation are thorough and CORRECT. But you know you’ve piqued their interest when their insider tips come out in a torrent, and you must ask them to repeat. As they orient, they give guests brochures from the rack, or look up information from their reference book rack, both in the main lobby area. They also offer faxing services, and (mostly) reliable wireless internet for each room. The rooms are recently remodeled, repainted and very clean, with frig, microwave and alarm clock.
On top of this, there’s convenience. The parking lot is adjacent to Jackalope, a fiendishly enormous vendor of oversize furniture, pottery, and gift emporium deluxe. Across the street is Café Castro, a nice little restaurant specializing in tasty New Mexican dishes. Smith’s, a large grocer, is located about ½ mile NE on Cerillos Rd. Santa Fe bus route #2 runs mostly along Cerillos Rd up to the downtown Plaza, Governer’s Palace or Museums--about a 20 minute ride. From there, it’s a single transfer to Museum Hill for sightseeing the remainder museums.
So get yourself in the saddle. Come see for yourself how a “budget” hotel outclasses much fancier, convenient and much pricier hotels located in downtown area of Santa Fe.

My wife and I stayed 3 days at the Silver Saddle during Indian Market. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but we didn't plan to spend much time in the room anyway. Shower had good water pressure and A/C worked great. A great place to stay if you aren't looking for anything fancy. We will be back!!
