Casa Del Toro Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #29 of 37 Santa Fe B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 23, 2011

We spent one night at Casa del Toro as we were passing through Santa Fe. It is easy walking distance to the plaza and we were given directions to a couple of great restaurants. Our casita was very spacious and brightly colored. The old wood floors are quite creaky, but somehow, that was part of the ambience (except at 2:30 am when the guy next door came in!). I would definitely stay here again!

We have stayed at Casa Del Toro many times over the last 4-5 years. We find the casitas a refreshing change from the run of motels Cerrillos. What is esp. nice is the location--an easy walk to the square. This makes it easy to do things in the evening (dinner, music) that you cannot do if you stay outside of the downtown area.

The casitas are always clean and well maintained. The look/feel is similar to staying in a well kept home.

We have stayed at a number of other local places (when Casa Del Toro is full), but none provide the same combination of friendly atmosphere, location and price.

In terms of finances, staying here was a good choice. The suite was spacious and just a 10 minute walk from the plaza. However, don't have real high expectations beyond that. I started my Santa Fe lodging stay by searching for The Old Santa Fe Inn, another Santa Fe motel where we had stayed previously. I was directed to this B&B instead (which seems a little suspicious). The promo compared Casa del Toro to Old Santa Fe Inn saying, among other things, that the breakfast at Casa del Toro is just as good. Well, I've stayed at both now and I can honestly say the breakfast at Casa del Toro, while good, is certainly NOT as good. I decided to stay at Casa largely because the room looked nice on-line and it was about $50/night less than Old Santa Fe Inn. To be brief(er), the rooms, breakfast and professionalism of the staff are all quite a bit better at Old Santa Fe Inn. But Casa del Toro is still a good bargain, just don't get your hopes up.

There is no place we'd rather stay than here. We always rent a casita and live like a local for a few days. The very authentic housing is close to the Plaza for sightseeing and good food and yet sits in an old neighborhood that is so quaint and lovely. We sleep well on good beds and spend time on the porch with Margaritas and watch the tourist go by. There can be no better place for guests with pets as it is stand alone housing and our dogs just make themselves at home. Our hosts have always been wonderful and give us maps and suggestions for food and hiking and entertainment, etc. I almost hate to post this review as I love the place so much and don't want it to become so booked I can't get in. If you're looking for hotel like accommodations, this isn't your place, but if you want to spend time in Santa Fe and feel like a native for the duration of your stay- this is it!

For our first stay, we were there two nights. This year, we stayed for four nights. Next time, we would love to stay for several weeks! The small apartment is close to the square in Santa Fe and yet is a quiet area. The apartment is charming, well equipped and yet not sterile like a suite in a big name hotel.
We love the wooden screen door, the unique painting in the bathroom, the ceiling fans, the colors. There is a TV in the apartment and yet when we were leaving, we realized that we had never even thought of turning it on. Only negative is that time went too quickly out there!

We had a wonderful time at Casa Del Toro! They helped keep our two-year old well behaved by allowing us to keep our schedule with the full bath and kitchen. We stocked the fridge full of Trader Joe goodies and toured SFe all around nap time! Norah had a happy stay and recommends it to others. The great astethics and clean adobe bungalow near to downtown pleased the parents. We will be back!
