My boyfriend and I spent a weekend in Santa Fe and was looking for a bed and breakfast with a little charm that was close to the plaza. We stayed in the Chamisa Suite and really enjoyed our stay. The staff is very accommodating and they allowed a late check-out without additional charge since there was not another reservation that day. The room has a very comfortable king size bed and the fireplace is close to the bed which allows for a cozy feeling and extra warmth. The bathroom is very small, but enough for one to easily get ready. The small room between the bathroom and bedroom is very nice to keep the luggage out of the way and there is a small refrigerator and coffee maker. The location is perfect and only 3 blocks to the beginning of the plaza. As parking is almost impossible in the plaza this is definitely a selling feature. The breakfast each morning was great and we had so much fun meeting new people and getting to share experiences and food suggestions. You can access the main room to make coffee, tea or hot chocolate all day which is nice during the winter. Overall, this was an excellent place to stay and we truly enjoyed our vacation. Would definitely stay here again!

We spent one night in the Chamisa Suite at the Hacienda Nicholas. It has a very comfortable King sized bed with wood burning fireplace and two cozy chairs . There is a small room between the bed area and the bathroom which was nice for storing luggage out of sight and for changing clothes. There were only two other guests for the evening so we were provided with a cheese plate and sparkling bottle of water upon our arrival rather than the usual happy hour spread. It was much appreciated as was the delicious hot breakfast served the following morning. The location is ideal in a quiet part of town but an easy walk to the Plaza and surrounding restaurants.

The owner of Hacienda Nicholas and the Madeline has an amazing and unique variety of accommodations. The principal dwellings are within comfortable and visually pleasurable walking distance from the Plaza. The staff members are cordial, competent, knowledgeable professionals. Breakfasts at Hacienda Nicholas would bring warm smiles from the editors of Cooks and Fine Cooking. Evening gatherings around the fireplace encourage the exchange greetings between guests. Experiences here are always memorable and thoughts of returning never end.

Room Tip: Look at the web site and find matches for your preferences.

My wife and I enjoyed our third anniversary at Hacienda Nicholas. We stayed the first few nights in the Nicholas suite and the final day we moved to the Sunflower suite (because we could not reserve the Nicholas for our entire stay). The Nicholas suite was large and comfortable. I loved the ease and beauty of the gas fireplace, and the bed/linens were great. The fireplace is easily visible from bed. The bathroom was fine, but not fancy or supermodern. Great robes were provided. The Sunflower suite was smaller than the Nicholas, but the bed was comfy and there was plenty of room for the two of us. The Sunflower had a wood fireplace that was more charming than the gas one, but it didn't give off heat and certainly was not as easy to use.The bathroom in the Sunflower was comparable to that of the Nicholas. I really enjoyed the breakfasts. Coffee and food were good, and the hot portion was consistently tasty. The common area where breakfast was served had a nice fireplace and provided nice relaxation space aroung the clock. Great cookies were available throughout the day. Clientele did not seem to be on the younger variety; I'm in my 40s and my wife is in her 30s, and we were the kids among the guests. Staff was friendly and professionally attentive.

Perhaps the best part of the stay at Hacienda Nicholas was the day-trip idea book provided in each room. It included great ideas of things to see/do and very good restaurant recommendations.

Location of the inn was super. The square was only a few short blocks away. It was easy to take interesting strolls and walk to good restaurants.

I would certainly be happy to stay at Hacienda Nicholas on our next visit.

We visited Santa Fe over the New Year's weekend and enjoyed the beautiful snowy scene. The Hacienda Nicholas is in a great location for walking the plaza and the galleries of canyon road. We stayed in the cottonwood room which is a nice size and comfortable but not one of the larger suites. This room is off the common room so not that private, but with the double door closed in the morning it was not loud. The common room was welcoming and the innkeepers always ready to chat if that's your thing.

High points:
Great location
authentic Santa Fe architecture
excellent breakfasts
comfortable bed
attentive and friendly staff

Could be improved:
Better shades in the cottonwood room - the light from the sign shines through the privacy shades all night. Staff said no one has ever complained, so maybe it's just me that likes dark at night.
Common room was often cold and the couches have more pillows than places to actually sit.

Room Tip: Every room is different, take a look at their website for descriptions.

Thank you so very much for writing such a comprehensive and thoughtful review of your stay. I am delighted to know that you enjoyed your stay, and appreciate the constructive feedback. As we discussed, I believe the existing shades were not so effective during a full moon during a big snowfall. As promised, now that I am back from my trip, getting darker shades is on my shorter 'to-do' list. As for the heating in the common room, there is a thermostat for guests to turn up or down, which is located right by the door to the Cottonwood Room. We tend to keep it at 68, but understand that when a guest is sitting in the common room, they may wish to bump it up or down according to their desires, so we leave it open and accessible for anyone to adjust.

Each of the two love-seats has two decorative pillows, but I am happy to run over right now and reduce that to one. If you felt it was too much to have two, then inevitably others have felt the same way. We aim to please, so it is very helpful to have your feedback. Thank you very much.

Our daughter had the Hollyhock room that was small but charming with lovely tile in the bathroom. The main room of the inn is very nicely appointed Southwestern style. The building is genuinely old adobe. Breakfasts are at communal tables with the fireplace going and are very substantial with many cold options, fruit and hot cooked items. All of the staff is very nice and helpful. We walked to almost everywhere we wanted to go in the historic area. We chose to be a few blocks off the plaza because it would be quiet which it was.

My wife and I are frequent visitors to Santa Fe, particularly during Christmas time. This was our second consecutive stay at Hacienda Nicholas, first staying in the Sunflower suite and this time in the Nicholas suite. We particularly like being in a quiet section but still an easy walk to the plaza. The staff is very friendly, and the breakfasts were fine.

The suites are very comfortable without being overly fancy. As other reviewers have mentioned, we especially enjoyed relaxing by the fireplace after a day walking around.

We've stayed in much more expensive places in Santa Fe but consider this a great bargain for what you get. We'll be back in the future.
