This is a wonderful rather out of the way destination not to be missed if you are interested in New Mexico history.

“Take the kids or go by yourselves”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2012

This is a great partially recreated working rancho. They have something scheduled year round and it is always wonderful. It gets very very warm during the summer in this little pocket, so go early and take hats. Learn to make tortillas etc. and see how people lived.

“End of the Trail ... Literally”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

Great place to visit with kids.
Area is spread out, so plan on walking at least a mile. Flat ground but not paved.
Try to go when there is an event.
Hot in Summer, so come prepared (parasol, water - go early, not late). Hottest time in SF is 2-3:00ish (sandy ground heats up throughout day).
Remember, this was a real. The end of the ol' Camino Real from ol' Mexico ... and that's cool.
Lastly, you can actually see areas along Hwy. 25 (south of here) where remnants of the Camino Real (wagon ruts) can still be seen!

“A look into the past!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2011

El Rancho is a restored and partially augmented recreation of a 17th century rancho one days journey by ox cart south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is beautifully presented with docents in costume, a quality gift shop and a lovely picnic area for those who choose to bring food. The Rancho provides a look into the pre-Anglo past of New Mexico and the greater southwest. One sees how they lived, worshiped and survived in a difficult and remote location. Kids and elders will appreciate this place. Note: For those with mobility or other health problems, the Rancho is located at about 6,500 feet elevation and it is hot, dry desert country. Drink lots of water!
