Owner description: Canyon Road is Santa Fe's historic arts district. Home to over eighty art galleries, as well as boutiques, restaurants, and historic adobe homes, it is the cultural center of Santa Fe. The galleries on Canyon Road show everything from traditional southwestern Pueblo pottery and quintessential Western art to contemporary abstraction and computer and digital art. Take time to explore; there's a little something for everyone here.

Parking was easy enough, but then it's April...We walked outside this complex initially to check out the Gerald Peters Gallery, yikes, a museum of impressive art, a must, but I suspect not all that visited by the tourist crowds due to their location. Then back in on Canyon where we wandered. I highly recommend walking around the cutie pie bungalow on the left when heading in to see the windmill'ish garden, then keep going back to check out the work of Barry Thomas. Then back on the street and head down atleast far enough to get to Michael Smith's gallery, a wonderful collection of Navajo Art. So well worth your time, you'll see...
The Greco Coffee Shop sort of at the head of Canyon whips up tasty sandwiches, so if you need energy you can find it there, plus it's got a quiet room, for what that's worth to you.
Enjoy, Salida1048

Forget downtown Santa Fe. Stroll up Canyon Road and feast your eyes on what I think may be one of the most eclectic collection of galleries and shops in America. Not only quantity, but the uniform quality of the work is even more impressive. Leave your credit card and check book back in your room.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I put this on my Santa Fe to-do list, but once I got there, I was glad we didn't dedicate too much time to it. There were countless art galleries up the long winding street, most with lovely sculptures adorning the front yards. For us, it was OK for a drive through, taking a quick look at everything, and then heading out. However, if you are looking to purchase any type of art - this will be heaven for you!

This is a Must Do. The many, many art galleries show outstanding work and even if you are not shopping, it is a great experience. You see a wide range of excellent art. You will feel welcome to roam the galleries.
