“a pleasant surprise in Santa Fe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

The wife and I made reservations to Pueblo Bonito for Martin Luther King weekend upon discovering the bnb we normally stay at in the Arroyo Seco - Arroyo Hondo area was closed. The hosts were most kind and helpful for meeting our needs and requests. This was the first time we stayed at one that was more close in to the historical Santa Fe area. The walk to the old Plaza would be a brisk five minutes walk although with all of the shops and places to eat in between the trip to the plaza and back took most of the day. The comfort for our accommodations was spot on and well thought out, the little kiva fire for the room kept the winter chill away for the greater part of the night. Breakfast in the morning was satisfying and filling. We will be back when Martin Luther king weekend comes again next year. We had fun. :)

And having fun is the most important thing, Donald! Thanks very much for your thoughtful review. I'm glad you chose us this time, and even more thrilled that you had such an enjoyable stay.

As you experienced, a major benefit of Pueblo Bonito Inn is our location. We're so close to the Santa Fe Plaza that you can easily walk there and back with no problems. Of course, with all of the galleries and restaurants in between, it can be quite time-consuming and fun!

When you're taking a break from exploring, our hearty breakfast and cozy fireplace will help you relax and stay comfortable. And of course, we're here to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. with both past and future guests. We're looking forward to your next visit!

Sincerely,

We found this to be a perfect location for walking everywhere - downtown, railyard district, etc. The staff was super friendly and willing to share local insight which we found to be great for dining. If you are interested in seeing art, take some time to walk through the Capitol Building just across the street - its free, not crowded and has great variety!

Thanks for your review, compliments and tips! We certainly do pride ourselves on both our great location and knowledge of the area. The Capitol Building is certainly a great recommendation for Santa Fe visitors to experience and it's literally a "stones throw" from our inn! Of course, we're full of our own suggestions on places to go or dine as well, and we're glad you took advantage of some wonderful dining ideas!

Glad to know your stay was comfortable and that you enjoyed our inn and staff. We'd love to host you the next time you're in town. Thanks again and remember you're always welcome at Pueblo Bonito Inn!

If you ride the Rail Runner train up to Santa Fe this is the place to stay. Close to the train station and the plaza Pueblo Bonito was the perfect place for us, we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The rooms were fantastic and we loved having a fireplace that burned wood.

The folks at Pueblo Bonito was great, friendly and very helpful. We will definitely stay again when we return.

Room Tip: We like the fact that we could see each room when we booked online.

You're absolutely right Bob- the railrunner is a great way to experience Santa Fe! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. One of the advantages of Pueblo Bonito Inn is our proximity to incredible attractions, such as the Santa Fe Plaza, Canyon Road, and the downtown Railrunner depot. Easy walk to dining, shopping, entertainment and beautiful artwork displays to your heart's content.

In addition, as you experienced, each of our 18 inviting guest rooms feature a working kiva fireplace! An exclusive and unique feature of our Inn. You'll definitely be able to stay warm, even if the weather outside is chilly (all rooms have heat too!). With our welcoming staff, we'll make sure your stay is both comfortable and memorable. Thanks again for your nice words. We'll be looking forward to your next visit!

loved the place we rented and being able to have a fire every evening, in our kiva as a great way to end the day.
We were able to walk everywhere. Enjoyed the Georgia OKeef museum. Got a tour into her research library.Afternoon tea at Pueblo Bonito, was lovely too. Plenty of choices for breakfast also.

Gee,

Thanks so much for your review! So happy you had such a wonderful stay with us and enjoyed the unique kiva fireplace in your room. From our many complimentary breakfast options, to comfortable, decorative rooms, to our relaxing afternoon tea sessions, we're proud to offer a welcoming destination to all visitors.

Even better, we're just a short walk away from attractions like the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the Museum of International Folk Art. You can get a full day of exploring in, without having to spend all your time driving!

I really do appreciate you taking the time to tell potential guests about your stay. We're happy to host you the next time you find yourself in Santa Fe!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2013

Conveniently located within a 10 minute walk of the Plaza, and 5 minute walk from the Capitol Building, Pueblo Bonito B&B became our home-away-from-home for our 5 night stay in Santa Fe. The parking, on the property, is free, and we parked directly in front of our tastefully decorated and comfortable suite (#17). We loved the kiva fireplace, the breakfast buffet and the afternoon tea. We also loved meeting the other guests, all of whom were very interesting. Conversation at breakfast is one of the bonuses of a B&B and we met some great folks. We also enjoyed the free wireless internet.

A few things to remember:
1. Pueblo Bonito is comfy, unique and each room is different. This is not a fancy place - there is no AC, room service, etc. The rooms are made up each day, towels are changed, and the fireplace cleaned and relaid.
2. Handicapped access - I suggest you contact the manager when making a reservation if you have handicapped needs. The bathtub/shower in our unit was fine for us but would be inaccessible for someone who is unable to step over the side of a tub.
3. Suites - Our suite was a one bedroom suite - the second "bed" was a futon in the living room. This worked fine for us - two girls on a girls' getaway, because my friend did not mind sleeping on a futon. The bathroom had to be accessed through the bedroom - again not a problem for us - just know that anyone sleeping in the living room with have to cross the bedroom to get to the toilet.
4. Hours - the staff and owners are extremely helpful and customer service oriented. They do not live on the premises, so any requests for additional equipment or information needs to be communicated earlier in the day.
5. Fireplace - one fire per day is included in the price of the room. That means 3-4 logs and a firestarter. Additional fires cost additional $ - $15 per fire as of our stay in Jan. 2013. We wanted to buy extra wood at Whole Foods, but we were told the management frowned on guests buying their own wood.

I love places like Pueblo Bonito because it felt homey, unlike a hotel room which is OK for sleeping but not for hanging out. This would be a great place for a family reunion!

Thanks so much for the kind words. We aim to create a wonderful experience here at Pueblo Bonito B&B, and while you touched on a few things that make us so unique, I wanted to address a couple of inaccuracies.

All of our rooms do have air conditioning. They're just generally not available during the winter months, which is when you stayed with us. We convert the rooms to air conditioning when it's more appropriate considering the temperature, although we can do so earlier if need be.

Our San Felipe room has limited handicap access. And we encourage all of our guests with special needs to call the facility beforehand, so we can meet your requirements. Our hours are 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. With other inns closing at 6 p.m., we're the latest desk-manned inn downtown! Since our rooms are self-contained, guests can let us know of any additional needs (for instance, ice or extra firewood) before 8 p.m.

In case of emergency, procedures for after hour needs are provided to all guests and explained upon check in. Our fireplaces are real, and a special feature of our inn—all rooms are complete with kiva fireplaces. We provide an already-made fire in the hearth for guests to enjoy, that provides 2.5-3 hours worth of burning ambiance. It's perfect for relaxing after dinner and before bedtime. Again, this is a real fire and primarily used for ambiance and not heat, as the room has heaters. 98% of our guests find this more than adequate. Allowing guests to burn items in these fireplaces without our knowledge or approval of what is being burnt could be hazardous. Thus, we allow only wood provided by Pueblo Bonito and pressed paper logs; we don't use firestarters.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review. I do appreciate it, I just wanted to correct a few things. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and we're always happy to host you whenever you're in the area!

Sincerely,
Amy Behm

This was out second stay at Pueblo Bonito and both times were wonderful. If you are looking for the Santa Fe experience, this is a place to stay. Even though the rooms on Galisteo are larger, ask for a room on the courtyard, as they are quieter and offer seclusion and privacy. I am not sure if all rooms offer kivas and vigas, but make sure you get a room with these too for that true SW atmosphere. We would light out prepared fire in the evening and when we returned the next afternoon, it was cleaned and set up for the next night. Note that it is within walking distance of the Plaza, the Railroad District, and Gaudelupe St.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a courtyard room.

We're honored to be called the quintessential Santa Fe experience! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

All 18 of our rooms feature a kiva fireplace and private bath, many have viga ceilings, hardwood or redbrick floors and all have the original foot and a half thick adobe walls thus providing quiet and privacy- regardless of location. Our property dates back to the 1860's, thus it naturally reflects the historic and native cultures of the people of New Mexico. Since all 18 guest rooms are unique and they each have distinctions of thier own, we find guests differing in thier vote for Pueblo Bonito's "favorite room" as well as "favorite location".

A huge benefit for Santa Fe travelers is our proximity to so many wonderful Santa Fe attractions. As you touched on, Pueblo Bonito Inn is just a short walk away from the Plaza, the Railroad District, and Guadalupe Street. And we're always here to offer suggestions on sights to see, restaurants to enjoy and how to map our your time more efficiently to maximize your overall New Mexico vacation experience.

Thanks again for your kind words and "vote" for "the place to stay in Santa Fe!". We'd love to host you again the next time you're in town!

Sincerely,

For history buffs, this place has a lot of value. The fireplace in the bedroom makes for a highly romantic setting. The inn keepers are thorough and friendly. We've stayed twice now, and will stay again.

We really appreciate the recommendation, Rafael! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. You're absolutely right—our rooms do have plenty of history within their walls.

Over the past 150 years we were originally the estate of Federal Judge Robert McFie, complete with stables, servant quarters and Indian Orno—which are all still part of the b&b. Pueblo Bonito housed many a "starving artist," even as well-known as Hilile Heller, when we converted to apartments in 1930.

Even our physical street location—138 W Manhattan—is named for the "Manhattan Project." Pueblo Bonito housed several US military and government officials, one of which was Robert Oppenheimer's personal body guard in our San Ildefonso suite, and in our Tewa suite right next door, a CIA official. A short stroll from our inn, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg sold plans to the Russians on how to build a nuclear bomb, one of the largest espionage cases in US history.

We're always happy to share the history of the area with you during a visit, as well. Thanks again for your compliments. Hope to host you for a third time soon!
