“So Close”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

This is really a beautiful property. Probably one of the nicer Hilton's I've stayed at and I have stayed at a lot. Went with the family for a few days. The indoor pool is very beautiful, kept clean, well ventilated one of the nicest indoor pools I've seen in any hotel anywhere. For us parents who want to sit while the kids are swimming there is an abundance of comfortable chairs to relax in. Kids had a great time in the pool. There is also a very nice outdoor pool that was closing for the season but it looked as well maintained as the indoor one.

The lobby is very nice with a lot of local art and pottery, smelled a little of smoke given the casino just downstairs but not much can be done about that. We stayed in the 2 queen junior suite. Very large room which was done very nicely in the theme of the hotel. Everything was clean and well stocked, the room was spacious, beds comfortable, showers and baths real nice. Housekeeping was great, they took the time to make up the kids bed special with their blankets and such, a nice touch. We were quite impressed with the rooms and the facility as a whole.

I say "so close" because this hotel is so close to being a truly unique property except for one thing. The experience with the staff as a whole is very inconsistent. Some of the staff is very accommodating, friendly, energetic and went out of their way as you expect in a four or five star hotel but an equal number of staff were grumpy, low energy, did only what was absolutely necessary and were rather unimpressive. If this hotel could increase the level of staff attentiveness, energy and customer focus across the board to a higher level, along with the gorgeous property, this would be a truly unique place.

Overall though a really nice stay. I'd have loved to give it a five rating, which I've never done except for the staff issues. The hotel was perfect for the four of us. We ate the the Mica restaurant for breakfast and the Parrot buffet for dinner one evening and found both sufficient but pretty much standard fair for a hotel restaurant. No complaints about them, they did their job of feeding us well for a reasonable price (for a hotel).

This was our first visit to this resort and it offers everything you want in a resort. In this case it offers gambling, golf, nice restaurants, beautiful indoor and outdoor pools and nice rooms. The casino isn't very smokey compared to other Indian casinos we have visited in New Mexico especially the Sandia in Albuquerque. The resort offers many different types of restaurants and offers quite a sports betting area for dog & horse racing. The only negative about this place would be it's location because its about 10 - 13 miles north of Santa Fe and not an easy location to get to from I-25. If you are on your way from Santa Fe to Taos then its right on your way. My wife and I are really glad that we stayed here versus staying at a hotel in Taos or Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Request a nice view of the golf course.

We stay here every time we visit Santa Fe, usually 8-12 times each year. The hotel is well furnished, clean, and very well decorated.

Pool is nice, the restaurants and bars are comfortable, as are the common areas. Walking around the trails is pleasant, the golf is good, but a little pricey - no discounts for Hilton Diamond members.

The casino is also a great attraction.

Room Tip: Dining in the hotel is good.

We just spent 3 nights at the Buffalo Thunder Casino and Resort. The room was quite incredible (we had a King deluxe suite) with beautiful views of the mountains in the distance. The hallway was quiet which was very important to us. The room had a mini bar but no fridge. The only fridge was in the bedroom full of soft drinks and liquor for purchase. No room for our water or other drinks, food and so on. We asked for a fridge and they said if they had one, we would get it. We didn't so I'm assuming they ran out of fridges. They also did not have a microwave in the room.

The bed was incredible as were the pillows. The fireplaces were a nice touch and really relaxing. Bathroom had both a shower and oversized tub as well as the big thick towels and robes for our use. Overall, the room was great except for the lack of a fridge and microwave. At $190/night, one would have thought these would be included. Also, we had to pay for internet usage at $9.95/24 hour period. Again, we have stayed at other properties that this was included.

We tried their buffet and it was good. Not great, but good. Get a player's card to get a discount. The steakhouse was very overpriced, but to be expected at a Hilton property. You will pay extra for your sides. The deli in the casino is great for a quick sandwich and they were actually decent but will run you 7 to 8 dollars plus your drink. Our best food actually came from the Sports Bar off of the casino floor and the prices were very reasonable. Unfortunately, if you have members of your family that are less than 21 years of age, you can't take them there.

The casino was very good. Ventillation was above average. The Players Club personnel weren't rude but weren't overly friendly either. The dealers on the other hand were quite friendly and pleasant. Lots of slots for a casino this size.

The indoor swimming pool is incredible and very classy! You have to see it to really get a good grasp on its uniqueness.

Overall, the facility was very good. It would have been excellent if the rooms came with at least a fridge and the price of food a bit lower. Staff was excellent to us so no issues there.

Room Tip: The suites with fireplaces are very, very relaxing. Make sure you don't get one by the elevator...

My wife and I recently went on a weekend getaway for our 31st wedding anniversary. We stayed in a Junior Suite here at Buffalo Thunder Resort. It was very nice and clean. The beds were wonderful and the staff were great. Upon arrival we were greeted by the Bellman Jeff who promptly squared us away in our suite. He was very nice and asked if we were there for the concert(ZZ Top). We told him we were there for our anniversary, but that was our first concert attended together 32 yrs. earlier and we wished we could have gotten tickets. He said he would see what was available and he would call if something came up. We didn't think that much about it and went for supper. During supper he called and informed us he had some tickets. We picked them up and attended the concert there in the Tewa Grand Ballroom it was great and we had a blast. A million thanks to Jeff for such a wonderful gift. The Casino there is also very nice although the smoke there is pretty bad, don't know if the ventilation just doesn't work well or what, but if you are allergic to smoke don't go to the casino. They also have a very nice golf course, although we didn't get to play this time. Indoor & outdoor pools as well as work out facilities and a Spa for some pampering. The restaurants at this resort are very nice as well and serve many different types of food and beverages. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this resort.

We stayed just one night (Friday). This place is really nice. We stayed on the 4th floor which seems to have the oversized rooms. They are super clean and the beds are awesome. The bath was one of the largest ever. The only drawback is most of the bars seem to close early. So you are stuck with going to the nightclub- which seems to draw no crowd at all. The buffet is not that great, so you are better off going back into Santa Fe for breakfast and meals.

I wouldn't say that this hotel is over the top but it is quite nice. Not super luxurious but newer, modern and spacious. We enjoyed our time here and would probably stay here again if we ever go back to Santa Fe!
