Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder

I've stayed here twice, once for business and once for pleasure. Both stays were what I would expect from a Hilton property. Great service, great amenities. It is a 15-minute drive north of the Santa Fe square. There's a nice-sized casino attached with a great players club, lots of slots, and a few table games. The decor is expectedly southwest/American Indian. The outdoor pool is huge and beautiful. My king-sized room was spacious and included a coffee maker. My only complaint was that the balcony overlooked the HVAC system and it was a little too noisy to enjoy. We didn't use the spa services or play golf, but we had a very relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a balcony room that overlooks the pool. The night-time view of the pool and the mountains...

My husband and I spent two nights at this resort. This was our second visit. We live in Albuquerque so it's a wonderful getaway that is close by. The hotel is beautiful with museum quality artwork throughout the common areas on the main level. The rooms are spacious with balonies and some rooms also have fireplaces. With no mosquitoes, gnats, or flies the balconies are wonderful year round. They are protected from the wind and if the sun is shining it's pleasant for morning coffee or late night drinks. The rooms are spotless as are all the common areas, the restrooms in the casino are also spotless. The hotel is dog friendly. There are plenty of eating options. There is a family friendly buffet that has specials each night that are priced between $15 -S20 and sometimes buy one get one free, a family restaurant open for breakfast and lunch with sandwiches, salads, mexican dishes at reasonable prices, a restaurant in the casino that has good food and a fine dining restaurant that gets lots of diners from the area, prices range from about $18 to $38. The food is very good, ambiance great and great service. There is a beautiful outdoor pool and a lovely indoor pool as well as a nice spa. There is an arcade for kids, a gift shop and small boutique. There is a 27 hole golfcourse that's quite challenging. There are beautiful views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and other lovely views from the golfcourse. If you plan to visit on a weekend, call ahead for a tee time. They get busy on the week ends, during the week there shouldn't be a problem getting a reasonable tee time. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The Santa Fe Plaza is 15 minutes away by car, Santa Fe Ski basin about 45 minutes and Taos is a 1 hour drive. Gabriel's, a fabulous Mexican Restaurant known for fabulous guacamole made tableside is about a mile south on the frontage road. I think the resort has a lot to offer and is a great value. Beware the honor frige - if you store something in the frige there is a $25 charge.

This is a beautiful hotel! The rooms and the hotel are beautiful. If you don't stay there, just walk the main level and check out the artwork/bronze statues/the indoor and the outdoor pool.
We did have a few problems that I found uncommon for a Hilton property. One of our rooms was not ready at check-in and it wasn't ready until almost 6pm.

The rooms are very nice and the bed was comfortable but the sound barrier from your room and the hallway wasn't very good. We could hear people coming/going all through the night.

Watch out for the sensor fridge and snack tray if you have kids or if you get the munchies in the middle of the night. It is a high-tech idea but the gentleman in front of me at the front desk had come down because his kids emptied out the fridge not realizing that it automatically billed you for all the items in it. Fortunately the staff was nice and worked w/him since the did not eat or drink the items, they just moved them.

The bar is expensive and only the one near the pool has happy hour. Happy hour was still high. The casino is just that a casino with lots of the latest slot machines and blackjack/poker tables. I didn't see it but my brother-in-law said they had a virtual golf machine. They do have water/coffee/soda in the casino. No alcohol since Indian owned and they are restricted on the free drinks while playing.

We would go back!

Room Tip: Ask about the sound barrier and maybe select away from elevator/vending machines

This is our second time to stay at this hotel. The rooms are gorgeous, employees are extremely polite, food is great, casino is fun, wonderful work-out room and spa, and the views are exquisite!!!
It is a truly hassle-free place to stay!

My family went skiing during the day and to the casinos, movies (10 minutes away) and restaurants at night. Very relaxing!

David the manager was extremely professional and helpful.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel!!!

The hotel is impecable and very spacious. The decor is grand, several works of art on display throughout the property. The room was spacious and comfortable. Although, we did not use the facilities, they seem very nice. There is a casino on site. We had dinner at one of their restaurant and the food was only OK.

Beautiful Resort and Casino! I'm not into gambling, but get a players card and the rooms are dirt cheap - like $50 a night for a regular priced room of $100! We had a king room with a patio/verandah - very clean, quiet...loved it!! Only 15-20 minutes to the Santa Fe Plaza Area. Suggest going to Ojo Caliente Springs/Resort and then coming here.

Beautifuly appointed hotel. Lobby area filled with beautiful art pieces. Casino unobtrusive on the lower level so we never had to deal with it. Rooms were attractive with great verandah. Food at Mica breakfast place was decent. Dinner at Red Sage restaurant within the hotel was poor. Virtually every dish was too salty. We got great room rate through Amex. Location is 15 minutes north of Santa Fe which worked out great for our trips to Abiquiu and Taos.
