“Beautiful Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2011

We were VERY satisfied with the whole entire hotel inside and out. The staff starting from the Check-In desk down to the maids and EVERYONE we talked to was friendly, courteous, helpful and all around nice, We had a very clean room, and the entire hotel was decorated very nicely. We had no problems sleeping. The only problem we had was it was hard to breathe in the casino, with all the smokers. The only solution that I see to that was to have a bigger separate section for Smokers & Non-Smokers with equal amounts of machines in each section. ALOT of the hotels we have stayed in could learn a lesson from the "Buffalo Thunder", especially on the cleanliness of the rooms and all the beautifu decor. We look forward to going again.

Room Tip: If you're wanting to get some rest, get a room facing the back, you don't hear anybody.

Stayed two nights at Buffalo Thunder Hilton last week and had a very relaxing experience. Got a great deal on a deluxe junior suite which overlooked the mountains and the golf course. The room was very nicely appointed with two fireplaces, a king sized bed, flat screen HDTVs, beautiful bathroom and very very quiet which we needed. Also had a nice pool area and spa. It was a drive into downtown but all by interstate and easy to maneuver with maps. We didn't use the casino or go to any of the restaurants other than Starbucks in the morning. Hope to go back one day.

Stayed here with my wife for 4 days in November. Property is nicely appointed in Southwest motif. Lots of art work and open space in hotel lobby. Room was very nice King - 2 room suite with balconies. View was disappointing - while we overlooked the pool area we also were facing the back side of the hotel (not very attractive). Room was quiet and got some good sleep, heard very very few noises. Room service was good but expensive. Surprisingly, no refrigerator or microwave in room. Nor was there a DVD player. Those omissions made it less than great. But the couches were comfortable, TVs were new and the fireplaces were a nice touch (though balky to start). Beautiful pool area (we didn't use) and a utilitarian fitness room are available. Casino was nice but accented towards smoking customers (there is a small non-smoking area available). Overall, a very nice place to stay and we would return.

Having stayed at La Posada off the Santa Fe plaza last year, I was hoping my online bid would again hit this property. Instead we headed 12 miles North of Santa Fe to the Hilton Resort located at Buffalo Thunder. While not on the square, this property worked out well as we planned to spend one day in Taos and it gave us a 15 -20 minute head start. We were pleasantly surprised that our room was a junior suite providing a large room, bathroom and covered balcony with two double beds. Room was located facing the back of the hotel with no noise from traffic or guests. The bathroom contained not only a tub/shower combination but a separate glass shower. Bathroom lighting over mirror could be brighter or add a make up mirror. Nice counter space in bathroom. Rain shower was ok but lacked strong water force. Beds and linens were comfortable and heating/AC easy to use though hallways were very hot. Staff at front desk and Glenn at the concierge desk were helpful and responsive. Did not eat in the many restaurants but did hit up Starbucks which is located a long walk from the lobby by the banquet rooms. Enjoyed a great dinner at Martin’s in Santa Fe and an OK meal at Graham’s in Taos during our stay. Driving the High Road to Taos (starts just north of the Hilton) is a great way to see the beautiful landscape. Enjoyed the Taos Art Museum and Fechin House in Taos where the house is equally as great as the artwork. Also a nice drive on the Turquoise Trail from Santa Fe to the Albuquerque airport highlighted by a stop in Madrid where shops abound with great local artwork, pottery and jewelry.

Room Tip: Avoid the costly parking meters in both Santa Fe and Taos and locate the free public parking. In Sa...

Hotel has been open for 3 years. Our room was so very nice and comfortable. All around the hotel, everything looked clean and new. Took a peak at the fitness area with changing area that led to the indoor heated pool and jacuzzi. Casino play provided us with entertainment in the evening. Dinner at the sports bar there was a bargain.. $10 prime rib! Servings are generous for the price .. even the burrito. Scenery outdoors was breathtaking, if you like open spaces. Property is about 25 minutes away from the town of Santa Fe. Best to rent a car to get around. Hotel provides scheduled shuttle to/from town of Santa Fe where one can catch free scheduled shuttles to visitor spots or ride the New Mexico RailRunner to Albuquerque. We took advantge of the shuttle and RailRunner transit to get to the Amtrak in Albuquerque. Cost for 2 was $6. We paid $100 for aiport shuttle service to Santa Fe and a taxi up to the hotel upon our arrival. If you take the hotel shuttle, you need to be clear on where to wait at the hotel for this.

We stayed here in October - wanted a casino weekend without the long drive to Nevada. This hotel is absolutely beautiful - Built in the pueblo style with lots of art work (sculptures, paintings, pottery) all over the common areas of the hotel. Rooms are nice - we had a king bed, comfy chair and ottoman, dresser, basic bathroom with enough counter space for the two of us. We loved the balcony, even though it looked over the parking lot. There is a lot of walking from the elevators to the rooms, so be prepared. My biggest complaint about the room was the lack of decent bed pillows. Pillows were way too soft - I had to use 2 or 3 just to get comfortable. We enjoyed the casino - but if you are not a fan of goofy penny slot machines, be prepared for disappointment. It was hard to find a basic quarter or dollar machine. I guess they put in the kind of machines most people like to play, but I am old-fashioned and like to play simple three-reel slots, not the kind that pay 50 or 100 ways (for maximum bets of $5.00 and more in pennies!). We had a good trip, except for the food. The only decent thing we had to eat was a corned beef sandwich in the Pueblo deli - the sandwich was outstanding. Breakfast at the Red Sage was not good - my eggs benedict were overcooked and the hollandaise sauce had way too much lemon. My husband's eggs were undercooked. Breakfast with tax and tip was slightly over $30.00, definitely not worth the price. We had dinner one night at the Turquoise Trail. I had the $10 prime rib....I guess you get what you pay for. The meat was very tough and full of gristle. My husband had a BLT sandwich and said the bread tasted stale. The rest of our meals we ate in the buffet - $7.77 if you joined the player's club. We were not very impressed. There were a lot of choices, but we went to dinner at 7:00 pm and the food looked like it had been sitting out for hours - crusts on all the sauces, everything dried up. The carving stations only had end pieces and remnants of meat, and they were not putting out anything new. The Sunday brunch buffet only had a small area of breakfast items, and a huge line of people waiting for omelets to be cooked. Good thing we had brought some snacks for our road trip - we ended up eating them at the hotel. There is a Starbucks that opens at 6 AM, but their pasty selection was small. We did not eat dinner at the Red Sage - looked a little pricey. Drinks were also not cheap ($5.00 draft beer) - if you are used to a Las Vegas/Nevada gambling experience, you will be disappointed. Service was inconsistent. We were ignored by bartenders and waiters several times, and also by the person at the player's club desk. We got the wrong check at breakfast and the waiter said not to worry about it, so we paid less than we should have - wonder who got our check?? All in all, we would probably go back sometime. We didn't expect a gourmet dining experience (and definitely didn't get one), but had a good time in the casino and a relaxing trip overall. If you lower your expectations, this is an okay place to stay..

My wife found a multi-night deal on this hotel prior to doing a week of the ABQ-Santa Fe-Taos corridor.
Since this is a casino-based property I was a bit skeptical as I have seen "four star" casino properties that WERE four stars-when Dean Martin was on TV.

This one did hit the mark of 3.75-4 stars out of 5.
The rooms were king size spacious, the bath well appointed and similar to any upscale home bath, latest electronics, etc.
Large pool area, although it was closed for the season, but well designed with private cabanas, etc.
Entry staff was very helpful and the concierge desk was eager to answer my wife's persitant questions about local must-do eateries.

Positioned just north of SF, it was a nice easy pace back into SF for the day or the next day for curiosities along the Rio Grande river road north to Taos.

I would send my family there with no hesitation, and as usual, the casino food can be above average at certain places but cafeteria-esq at others.

Room Tip: ask to be closer to the central (only) elevator as the corridor end rooms are 500 feet away and repe...
