Our room was beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable. As someone mentioned earlier, the breakfast was just OK.

I know people rave about the service, but it wasn't our experience. The woman who checked us in was very cold and seemed annoyed that we showed up (it was just around 6pm). Our room was across from a bar and the music kept up pretty late.

If you want to be downtown, walking distance to everything, and stay out late, the location is perfect. If you want to get to bed early, you might want to look elsewhere

We traveled to Santa Fe in January for an extended weekend trip with two other couples. One of the couples regularly stays at the Water Street Inn, so we stayed here at their recommendation. We weren't disappointed with our choice. The rooms are very nicely decorated, the bathrooms are very clean and decorated with Mexican tiles. We stayed in two rooms because the room we had originally reserved had a plumbing problem when we arrived. We were upgraded for one night and then returned to our original room after that first night - this issue was handled very professionally by the staff and turned a potential negative into a positive as we got to see some of the variety that the Inn had to offer in the way of accomodations.

We really enjoyed the choice to either dine in the dining room or have room service. Breakfast was basically a glorified continental breakfast and could have used a bit more variety, but I have to disagree with the previous reviewer who said the food was unimpressive. It was very good quality and fresh during our stay. While we would have enjoyed the choice of a hot entree, we were very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food provided.

The evening happy hour was fun and a nice way to meet the other guests while gathered in the common room around a roaring fire. One night we had margaritas and quesadillas, the other nights we had local wine and hot appetizers. The alcohol and food helped to loosen up the conversations and get the night started on a happy note. One night we commandeered the common room after happy hour and held our own private wine tasting - great fun.

Regarding the hot tub, I will agree with the poster who said that it is situated in a somewhat dark enclosure that was not initially enticing, but we ventured a little further than the previous poster and found it was actually quite pleasant. The hot tub is very large and can seat 3-4 couples. It was very clean. The room was also ringed with little Christmas lights which we turned on and which made for a much improved appearance to the enclosure. To sum up my views, the room could use a bit of a sprucing up, but it is quite servicable and not the negative portrayed below.

Overall, I would recommend this Inn to others and think you will enjoy your stay. It is in a great location within a couple of short blocks to the square and close to many restaurants.

I spent three nights at the Water Street in August 2005 to attend the Santa Fe Opera. We stayed in Room 2 on the ground floor. The room was very comfortable and well appointed, as was the bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable. All of the various inn keepers we dealt with were most helpful and pleasant, with one even lending me her mobile phone when my calling card did not work for long distance calls. The one Happy Hour we were able to attend was a great way to chat with other guests and relax.

There were, however, some problems that would preclude me from rating the Inn as highly as other reviewers. The main one was that the air conditioning unit for the building was on the roof of our room. It cycled through all day and night, and would have been intolerable had we not been there during a comparatively cool spell. The a/c in the bathroom consisted of cold air blasting out at floor level with no relief - not a major issue, but very noticeable. Breakfast was adequate, but no more. You complete a form on arrival, choosing what you want, when you want it and where you want it. You can make changes each day, but the menu is pretty basic. We tried the bagel, croissant and muffin and found them of low quality and perhaps even stale. The OJ was definitely not fresh squeezed and the water for tea was not even close to boiling.

I haven't stayed in any other B&Bs in Santa Fe, but I can't imagine that Water Street is up there with the best. Pleasant, but.......

We spent the 4th of July in Santa Fe with 4 nights at the Water Street Inn. The rooms themselves are very well done. Nice furnishings. We stayed in the Galisteo Suite, one of the courtyard rooms. The best part of the room was the enclosed "porch" and the private patio. No view but very nice to be able to sit outside beside the small fountain.

I'm not sure that we would have liked the rooms in the main inn as they lacked privacy. All opened onto a well traveled walkway from the parking lot. Anyone going to the reception area or the upstairs kitchen used the walkways. All the rooms overlooked the parking lot which is shared with the busy restaurant next door.

The location of the Inn is one of its best features. It's about 4 blocks to the Plaza and close to many excellent restaurants. We had dinner next door at Vanessie's and thought it the best night of our trip; not because of the food (which was quite good) but because of the piano player. The bar is delightful and attracts all locals. We were there for an open mike night and many, many talented residents joined in the evening's entertainment. A real winner.

The biggest disappointment at the Water Street Inn was the hot tub. The picture of the hot tub on the website was very attractive and helped us choose the Inn. However, in reality, the hot tub is in a small closed room covered with a dark roof. The effect is a dank, dark spot. It's kept locked (room key provides admission) and the tub itself is covered in blue plastic. During our 4 days, we did not see anyone even approach the tub. They should either eliminate it or make it more welcoming.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Water Street Inn. I might choose another hotel should we return but thought we got our money's worth at the Inn.

Great location. Beautiful, well appointed rooms, Fantastic service with much attention to detail. Fun evening function with local Santa fe wines served with home made goodies. The inn keepers greet you upon arrival and are there to assist you with directions, maps, reservations, etc. This place is simply the best.
