Last year was the first time we stayed at this Inn. It was perfect. We received an upgrade to a much larger room. This time again we decided to stay at the Inn. The room was exactly as expected with no upgrade. The front desk people were as friendly as ever. The wine and cheese in the afternoon was great with few exceptions. The first night we had Charlie-it is obvious he enjoys his job and kept things going. That night after a long day on the road we tried the light menu at the Bistro. The chef was late and it took time to heat up the grill so our food arrived about an hour later than we expected-but it was delicious. The next two nights we had a young man that definitely did not have the charm of Charlie. At times he was yawning and looking somewhat bored. The first night their dishwasher had broken down so plastic cups and the cheese and veggies arrived a little at a time because evidently the chef as the only one in the kitchen and he was working like crazy. One of the previous reviews noted the lack of discounts for AAA or past guests.
Now with all of this said it is still the place to stay to be in walking distance to Canyon Road and the Plaza. And even the Railyard if you like to walk. The place is spotless. The breakfast has such a variety you have to find something that you like. Everything we have ever tried on the breakfast menu has always been fresh and delicious.
They hand out a "report card" to guests to let them know how they are doing. As we left and I gave them the card I told them it is hard to give them "exceeds expectations" after you have been there once because you expect perfection. Had this been our first time there probably none of the above mentioned shortcomings wouldn't have seemed out of place. But since I experienced PERFECTION last year that's what I expected this year too.
Certainly on any other trips to Santa Fe they will be my first choice but like one of the previous reviewers I might comparison shop. I don't mind paying top prices when everything is "Top".
