Having stayed here about 15 years ago we were looking forward to a return. We booked a suite and stayed for 13 nights. To say it all in less than 200 words I will list advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages: utmost quiet. except for the Plaza, SF goes to bed early. Great for sleeping. nicely close to Canyon Road. Complimentary quiche breakfast plus fruit, coffee. Four tables on the patio for alresco breakfast. Terrific restaurant a block away: Mucho Gusto. Complimentary high speed computer with printer in lobby.

Disadvantages; Nowhere close to other sites. Walk in the heat or drive. Hotel has no elevator- we negotiated 33 steps to suite. Noisy A/C. In peak season the hotel is booked heavily with groups who generally leave by 9 AM on excursions. That said, you don't meet many folks at breakfast. Our room showed signs of wear: Carpet, windows. No microwave in room, no TV in large living room. Rooms are dark, few lamps. Wine and cheese at 4 was simple but a period longer than an hour would be nice.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have skylights to light up generally gloomy rooms. There are no 2-bedroom units.

Given the price that we paid for a suite at the Inn on the Alameda, I was expecting a lot. Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed. Positive things first: this hotel is in a wonderful location a block from Canyon Road, the property and some of the common spaces are lovely and the rooms are large and comfortable. However, the details of the hotel are not at all up to par with their reputation or the cost. Their bathrooms could certainly use updating as could the jacuzzi that was available for common use near our room. The free breakfast they offer looks delicious but tastes like the pastries were purchased at Costco. The frittata staff members kindly offer to warm up for us was served cold. I also had a few issues with their staff , some of whom are absolutely lovely and others who are not. When we were asked our room number at breakfast, a staff member who misheard my response rudely told me there was no such room at the hotel. My friends and I are younger than the hotel's average guests and it seemed like the staff could not believe we were staying there. Another staff member insisted I did not have a reservation but it turned out she had simply misspelled my last name when looking it up on the computer. Finally, it feesl a bit like the hotel nickels and dimes guests. We stayed in a suite with a king sized bed and a queen pull out. They insisted on adding a $25 charge to the already hefty room rate for an extra guest even though the room could easily accomodate that many adults. At breakfast, there are several signs indicating the price of specialty coffee beverages. It was all a bit heavy handed and ungracious.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite with a wood burning fireplace. The room was lovely.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The grounds are lovely, the rooms fine, and an easy location for walking to the plaza or Canyon Road. The breakfasts were plentiful and quite varied--nice that they are buffet style so that it is easy to go at any time to have a fine array of food.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony on the second floor with trees outside was a nice respite after a day of walking around.

Just around the corner from Canyon Road, this is a perfect location for those who love art. The galleries are phenomenal, friendly, abundant and right around the corner from this lovely, well-managed, comfortable Inn. Also close to many restaurants and all of the offerings of the Plaza. Front desk staff was consistently available and helpful. Our room was a deluxe king -- no complaints at all. Breakfast choices were plentiful and tasty. Would return here.

Stayed here recently. Enjoyed hotel and convenient location for the most part. Breakfast was very nice and the evening wine hour was lovely. Had a difficult time finding a newspaper in the mornings though. It would be nice if more were available in breakfast area. Reserved a room with a balcony - not a good choice nor worth the extra cost. Balcony was tiny with one metal chair overlooking the parking lot and was far too hot to use. Wireless was inconsistent and weak.
