“OUTSTANDING CHARMING FACILITY.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

This is a very lovely and charming bed and breakfast right in the middle of Santa Fe, Our room was very private, quiet and very well appointed inside. The room had beamed ceiling, attractive painted furniture, fireplace, refrig., very comfortable bed, decent large bathroom , super heating and AC, decent large closet with chest of drawers inside.
Our outside patio with comfortable chairs gave a very spacious look. The entire grounds were very well landscaped with flowers, bushes, trees, flowers, etc., even fountains.
The breakfast room was very art decorated with paintings, bronzes, etc., in keeping with the very art and craft mode for Santa Fe. The staff was very friendly and appreciative.
Parking was very easy with quick access to our room.
We could not believe the low rate for this excellent property, even though this is their low season!

Room Tip: Choose a room toward the back of the property away from busy Cerrillos Road.

Green Features: They are well tuned to all environmentally-friendly practices with recycable waste baskets, etc.

This hotel is convenient in Santa Fe with parking outside your room door and located on one of the main roads. Near the square - but not at all walking distance. Nice breakfast area. Old fashioned motor-hotel feeling/ambiance. I would stay again.

Despite a somewhat unsatisfactory experience at the El Rey a few years back, I gave them another try and hit the jackpot. Selection of room location and type is the secret at this place of many configurations. This time I reserved #50, a king suite in the back of the property away from the street, with a working wood burning kiva, its own patio and a separate full kitchen. The room was spacious with pretty decor, the bed was comfortable, and the rate was very reasonable for Santa Fe (or anywhere). When prompted, they provided a big supply of logs with fire starter packs that made building the fire a breeze.

The timing made a difference as well. Last time I was here the first week of October, and the place was mobbed and seemed somewhat overwhelmed in terms of grounds maintenance and the breakfast area. This time, the last week of October, there were about 1/2 as many occupants -- a definite improvement for guest comfort, tho maybe not for profits. I recognized many of the same staff members as 4 years ago, which says a lot for management.

Room Tip: If traveling in late fall or winter, get a room with a kiva.

This was a very charming motel off a busy thoroughfare, offering several amenities - but our sleep suffered due to unimpeded desert night cold. The grounds are so vast it seems that the management can't keep up with it. The heat in our room didn't work, which we discovered around 2am. There was little light in the bathroom and two bulbs needed replacing. The one hot tub I was able to access was lovely - but the jets didn't work. When I noted the former two problems as we were checking out, instead of sympathizing, the clerk was ready with her retort (which I gather is used frequently), "Did you call our 24-hour front desk?" Like I want someone tromping around my room at 2am!!! Only by doubling over the blanket and bedspread and snuggling with my husband was I able to get more sleep. It is worth staying there if one is adventurous and ready to self-advocate frequently. Wi-Fi was fine, TV was old and small, room was spacious, bath had a skylight, nice decor, solid construction; yes, charming. The Continental Breakfast appeared to be like any other with two additional features: wonderful dining room ambiance and no styrofoam dishes in sight. The Pantry a block away offers hearty New Mexican fare at reasonable prices.

5 Minutes from town. Great price and ambiance. Staff was great Pool area and hot tub was very good and clean. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Room had all needed amenities. the grounds are large and beautifully landscaped. Would definately stay here rather than down town.

This place is a classic, unique property. The initial view is an older roadside motel. However, the property is expansive with charming courtyard gardens, a variety of adobe buildings, a lobby with an historic feel and a delightful breakfast sitting area. Although I did not use the pool, it was available and surrounded in a garden like fenced area. A hot tub near my room was tucked into mini courtyard I did enjoy. I would definitely stay at the El Rey Inn on a future trip.

This is a typical roadside motel--think Route 66--that had it's heyday in the 40's and 50's. However, it's New Mexican adobe construction still retains it's charm. The place has certainly been updated over the years and all the amenities are there in your room--TV, fridge, coffee pot, blow dryer, ironing board, internet service, excellent bedside reading lights, and morning breakfast in a quaint dining area. Tastefully decorated with wood ceilings and lots of foliage around the doorways to provide a cool place to sit and relax. It's on a very busy road (Cerrillos) but not too noisy with the adobe walls. Not a place to stay all week but a really fun, affordable and nostalgic stop as you travel through NM.
