“Best in the West”

Our stay at the El Rey was one of the finest experiences of our trip through Colorado and New Mexico. The grounds are beautiful. To wit, immediately upon exiting our motor carriage, we were greeted by a sonorous cascade of birdsong. We stayed for 3 nights, in a different room each time, and each was not simply different from the others, but wholly unique. Our leisurely breakfasts on the shady, nay verily verdant, lush, patios (there are 2) put us in fine fettle. We can envision no better harbor from which launch the frigate of adventure in Santa Fe and surroundings! Mistake not our playful tone for disingenuousness: we love the ERI, and shall, should we dock in the area once more, stay nowhere else but here. So climb aboard the SS El Rey Inn! Anchors away!

This is a great stay. The room was very large and decorated with Victorian
Furniture. There were rose gardens that were will taken care of throughout the property. Breakfast was adequate. The only complaint we had was that the tv was old and did not get a lot of channels, such as the business channels. The remote did not have a guide, so you couldn't tell what was going to be showing. Aside from that, we definitely will stay again. The pool was nice and guests usedit a lot.

What do you get when you blend a beautifully restored 1930s Route 66 auto court with a 1950s auto court and five acres of landscaped grounds that double as a bird sanctuary, and add just enough of the modern amenities modern travelers expect as well as a wonderful breakfast on the patio? The El Rey Inn, a true urban oasis is just a short distance from the historic plaza and most popular attractions, and is easily acessed via I-25.

A little blast-from-the-past on old Route 66. Do NOT stay here if you are looking for a five-star glitzy Vegas resort. DO stay here if you want a quaint property with delightfully southwestern flavored rooms, a wonderful breakfast each morning, a calm setting, and great customer service. All I need now is a car with fins and I'm good to set out on the Mother Road.

Room Tip: Stay in the original 1930s old section. That's usually rooms numbered under 25.

We stayed at the El Rey in late May 2013. Our room was pleasant and the breakfast was delicious, but the best was the garden-like surroundings. Although it's located on a main street approaching downtown Santa Fe, the sounds of birds, not traffic, woke us each morning. The property has been recognized by the National Wildlife Federation as a backyard wildlife santuary and it merits that designation.

The staff was very helpful in giving us information about Santa Fe and giving us driving directions. The El Rey is a bit too far from the downtown to walk to the Plaza, but they told us to park in the public lot behind the Cathedral, which was an good location for going to the Plaza and Canyon Road.

Next to El Rey is an excellent neighborhood restaurant called The Pantry where we had two delicious dinners. Altogether, El Rey is a good place to stay!

Room Tip: Cerrillos Road is a main street. Get a room as far from it as possible.

The El Rey Inn is very nice and quite well maintained. The Inn is old but has been modernized. The room with 2 full beds was well appointed and had a very nice bathroom. The decor was southwest, as expected, and well done. There were two hot tubs, one indoor and one outdoor.
The continental breakfast was a little disappointing considering the cost for the room. There was nothing "hot" except toast. There were numerous breakfast drinks, boiled eggs, toast, and cereal.
The price was almost $150 for the night. My modest, senior income can't take that very often.

Room Tip: Rooms up to number 44 were part of original construction and first addition in the '40's. W...

Had a wonderful first stay at The El Rey Inn. We've stayed at several different hotels in Santa Fe, but this is by far my favorite, a great value. It's on the main road, but you wouldn't know it once on the grounds, it's so beautiful & tranquil. Very nice pool area and both hot tubs are nice, one is indoors & the other is outdoors. The room was spacious, clean & had a refrigerator. There was a microwave in the laundry/ice room a short walk away. We had 2 windows that actually opened to let in the cool, fresh air we were experiencing this time of year. But when it did get a little warm, the air conditioning worked great. The TV didn't work that well as the network channels were fuzzy with a poor signal & there's not a lot of channels to choose from, however there is HBO & that channel worked just fine. Free wifi too. Breakfast was a little lacking, but there's so many amazing breakfast spots in Santa Fe, we never really wanted it anyway. The double bed was a little small for us as we are used to sleeping in a queen. The location is good too, just a short drive to The Plaza, grocery stores & restaurants. I find the adobe, Santa Fe style of the hotel quite charming. We try to visit Santa Fe every year & we will be staying at The El Rey Inn from now on.
