Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe
Ranked #11 of 60 Hotels in Santa Fe
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 10, 2013

We were very disappointed upon our arrival to find this resort did not quite live up to the high standards of the typical Four Seasons we have come to expect.
When we checked into one of the suites, we discovered that the room had not been swept nor mopped. There was a huge stain on the rug by the bed, and stains on the couch and lounge chairs. Our room’s courtyard was filled with uncut grass and weeds and littered with cigarette butts. Also we were disappointed to find they did not supply the usual Four Seasons L’Occitane amenities. We did call the front desk about the floors and they sent someone up right away to sweep and mop.
Over the weekend, we became aware that the Rancho Encantado was recently taken over by the Four Seasons and this property and the staff was going through a transition phase. We couldn't help but feel that we were being used as training and practice for the staff, and we were cheated and misled.
I do want to mention that there were some positives during our stay, including an informative hike with Hans, and a delicious dinner at Terra. At breakfast, Chef Andrew Cooper came to our table, introduced himself, and is a great asset to the property.
Hopefully, Rancho Encantado will eventually live up to the Four Seasons standards.

Very nice hotel, wonderful guest rooms. Wanted to take the bathroom home with me! It's a little off the beaten path, so not all that convenient to activities in the old town area, but very quiet and relaxing.

This is the first conference I have attended where the food was fresh cooked and I could eat health without passing up most of the items served. All of the staff called me by name and were very responsive.

One of the best stays ever. Beautiful appointments, great service and a great place to meditate/be at peace with yourself.

These so called "Casitas" are so private with elegant touches (like heated concrete bathroom floor, wood burning fireplace with plenty of wood supply), it was just fabulous.

Make sure you enjoy a great round of golf at the Black Mesa course, or drive about 45 minutes to play the award winning Paa Ko Ridge golf course. It's well worth the drive!

We spent 4 wonderful nights here recently. What a gorgeous setting and an incredible place to detach/unwind. The staff attended to our every need and the concierge/bell desk employees Dan and David were so helpful with suggestions and information on everything in Santa Fe, Taos and the surrounding area. The fitness room and Movement Studio were very well equiped and offered amazing views that made me forget I was even working out!
Chef Andrew prepared an amazing private meal for our group...it was nothing short of FABULOUS! He and his staff have such an impressive grasp of local foods and they utilize them to the fullest in their preparations. It was such a lovely night --many thanks to the Chef and Staff.
Thank you to all the staff at Rancho Encantado...We will definitely be returning soon!

My wife and I loved our stay at this new resort. But we expected a superlative experience and were a bit let down. Let me start by saying that the entire property, from the rooms to the spa and gym through the surrounding hillside, is extremely beautiful. (Though the room seemed a bit cramped due to all the furniture and the layout -- we could have used more bedroom space and less bathroom space.) We greatly valued the free shuttle to and from Santa Fe, which took less than 15 minutes. But we wish someone had told us earlier about the free, but hard to reserve, Mercedes sports coupes! And the staff were incredibly friendly -- it seemed that everyone knew our names!

So why only four circles? We had hoped to do some hiking around the area and enjoyed a guided hike on our first morning. But the trails are not well marked and we learned that many guests got lost and turned back. And without these trails, the property seemed cramped. We booked spa treatments and were disappointed that there were separate his and hers hot tubs. More importantly, our treatments were good, not great, despite the very high prices. Finally, the restaurant was okay, but was only our third best dinner out of four we ate on Santa Fe.

I imagine that things will improve further as the property develops. If we return to Santa Fe, we will definitely stay at the Four Seasons Rancho Encandato.

We had been to this site years ago when it was owned by a family and was a lovely and down to earth place to stay and eat. WOW! Has it changed! It is now an elegant resort with absolutely delicious food in the restaurant. There are condos and cassitas to stay in, and a spa and swimming pool to relax in. Yet it's design "fits" in the environment - New Mexican without being hokey. Located a few miles off the highway across from the Opera makes it remote - yet not really. It just looks and feels that way. In just a few minutes you can be at the Opera or downtown Santa Fe. The staff was warm, outgoing and extremely friendly. We arrived way early for our lunch reservations and they offered us cold or hot drinks and then sat us in the lovely dining room with a view to wait. We did not stay there so cannot evaluate accomadations. But we definitely want to go back land stay there. This is a real winner!
