We stayed at the Longhouse in the Green Room for three nights in early June. It was an incredibly beautiful area. We enjoyed the company of the owners, Jerry and Patty. Both gave us wonderful info on local excursions, shops, and restaurants. Breakfast was marvelous each morning and the atmosphere was relaxed. They made us feel like family, not paying guests. We left the San Juans to travel on to Alaska and the Longhouse was a relaxing beginning to our travels. We would definitely recommend this B & B.

This B&B is filled with unique articles and books from the hosts' world travels. A delightful and interesting couple. The hostess is a gourmet cook and we had wonderful meals. Our room was large and comfortable. Lovely grounds. Would highly reccommend it!

We stayed in the Longhouse B&B several days and loved it! The owners, Patty and Jerry, have very tastefully decorated their home with beautiful Native American artwork (carved items, basketry) and items they have collected around the world. They are wonderful and attentive hosts with some very entertaining stories. Patty prepares amazing breakfasts that will leave you ready to hike the trails around San Juan Island. They also can provide you with a wealth of information about some great spots for hiking and sightseeing.

Just returned home from a week's visit to the "Longhouse B&B" on Mitchell Bay Road, Mitchell Bay, San Juan Island, WA.
The owners, Patty and Jerry Rasmussen made our visit a memorable one, with the best ever breakfasts, and advice on "what not to miss" . This B&B faces a serene bay, with deers, otters and other fauna. We also learned how to "Kayak", saw some orcas, and enjoyed a restful stay in a beautifully decorated setting. Plenty of books and art works, with mementos the Rasmussens brought back from their worldwide travels. We've already made our reservation for next year.

We loved the Longhouse B & B! First of all the setting is pristine on beautiful Mitchell Bay. We had the cabin which has a fabulous deck overlooking the bay that cannot be beat. The cabin is very comfortable and cozy and just perfect.

The owners, Jerry and Patty are terrific! Patty whips up an amazing breakfast daily and both provide excellent guidance into your San Juan stay and a warm, friendly environment. We came as strangers but quickly became family! Jerry's intimate knowledge of the islands is a real perk!

This B & B is a true gem that we hope to return to often. It is one of those rare finds that is truly a special place.

This place was absolutely wonderful. The house itself was comfortable and cozy with a wonderful view. The best part of our stay was getting to know the owners, Patty and Jerry. They are a delightful, friendly couple who are more than hospitable. Patty (a trained chef) makes an INCREDIBLE breakfast every morning and greets you with an afternoon coffee or cold drink. We had a wonderful conversation with them over a bottle of wine our last night there. They were very helpful in recommending places to see on the island and even made reservations for us at some of the best restaurants on the island (Duck Soup Inn and Back Door Kitchen). We did not want to leave and can't wait to go back!

My wife and I enjoyed many wondrous and memorable experiences during the three days at the Longhouse on San Juan Island that leaving the gracious hospitality and charisma of Patti and Jerry Rasmussen was very difficult. They are irreplaceable. Both made us feel right at home in their historic Longhouse in Mitchell Bay. We highly recommend staying here when visiting San Juan Island.

The cedar rounds comfort your feet and the shims settle your seat, sit back for a breakfast bonanza handmade every morning by Patti. Her culinary skills are impeccable. This is no standard breakfast and one would bah at anything less after eating her homemade scones and Dutch babies. Jerri's taste for wine is stupendous and as the former Chief Engineer for the county, you can't go lost. Both take the cake with their wit and charm. We shared many stories and much laughter into the late evening hours, a rare occurrence at most inns.

The following are just a sample of what we enjoyed on the Island.

Deep clear blue skies, fresh salt laden air, and the fluctuating tide. All bring a sense of feeling like you have finally found your home or place in this world.

The speed limit, out-of-towners and tourists zip by and miss most of what makes this Island unique. After a day you really enjoy driving at speeds sometimes less than what was posted. The island is pastoral in places and beautiful views are hidden and tucked away from speeders.

The wildlife (although in limited numbers) was spectacular. We were fortunate to see the J, K, & L Orca pods, harbor seals, oyster catchers, bald eagles, river otters, Dungeness crabs and numerous black tailed deer.

Oysters hand picked from Westcott Bay Sea Farm are especially delicious shucked and slurped on the deck at the Longhouse. I just hope Shaw’s here in Chicago would start to order them again.

Dinners at Duck Soup Inn (ask for Steven as your server) and the Back Door Kitchen were fantastic (sit near the Gunnera manicata)

A tour of Colleen's Mitchell Bay Farm is not to be missed, where else on the islands can you see and taste organic espaliered asian pears and kiwi's lush on the vine. The secret is in the sheep.

Kayak tour of Haro Strait from Crystal Sea’s Kayaking next door at Snug Harbor is not to be missed. Try the kelp it will loosen you up if you have the vacation jitters.

Hiking the numerous trails that dot the island are host to spectacular views and great exercise for those areas that may have plumped.

And lastly, the nighttime sky filled, with stars and planets, put into perspective how fortunate we are to have Jerry and Patti share this small piece of paradise with the world.
