We have been to the island many times, but always rented a house. The house we usually rent had a mid week rental only so we stayed at the Hotel De Haro for three days as it was close to the house we were renting as well as the whale watch trips we had scheduled. We rented two rooms, both with the bathrooms. Keep in mind this is a historic hotel, so tight stairways, etc. Also no tvs, etc (I loved that!). We were out on the balcony every night, loved the super plush beds. Our lights didn't work properly in the bathroom and the sink had a problem, but no biggie. It was a bit pricey, but it is historic and a tourist destination so if if is during high season expect to pay more. The view was incredible. The staff was so friendly, loved the fruit infused water in the lobby, our crew probably drank over a gallon by ourselves. The couple that was with us was my son and his wife. He proposed to her at the Afterglow Mausoleum a few years ago and got married last year. We had special dinner that night and she commented on how she would love to stay in the hotel. Unbeknownst to her her was going to propose in less than an hour. So this was very special for them! Loved evening walks to the gardens, docks, church and a re-visit to the Mausoleum. Only thing was a better sign to check in from the road, we went the wrong way...twice lol!

Room tip: Top floor is best views, get a room with a private bath, there are only a few!

lscordis,
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to host you and your family in the Hotel De Haro and for your kind words! There's nothing better than relaxing on the balcony and taking in the sunset over the marina. We are pleased you enjoyed your time in the De Haro as well; it is a historic building but that's what makes it so special. If you are looking to stay with us again we have many other accommodation types which may suit your needs as well ranging from luxury suites to condos & cottages. Thank you again and we look forward to hosting you again in the future!

My rash is starting just to go away. The rooms in the Hotel de Haro are horrible. Old, musty and dirty. The three top steps to the second floor are slanted downward, a very dangerous hazard. Some rooms have no bathroom. The linens and the entire facility did not smell clean.Yes, Teddy Roosevelt stayed there, he wouldn't even think of staying in this decrepit scary hotel today. Stay in Friday Harbor.

Suzanne,
Thank you for the review and staying with us. We appreciate your feedback! We apologize that your stay may not have met your expectations. Due to to its historic designation, the Hotel De Haro is limited in what can be done to it; we have other styles of accommodations on our property that will definitely fit you better such as the Quarryman Hall & McMillin's Suites. These are recently constructed/renovated rooms with all the luxury amenities you would expect. We do hope we have the pleasure of hosting you again in the future.

Roche Harbor has everything! As a boater, we are able to do laundry, reprovision at the grocery store, mail post cards, eat at the Madrona Grill, the Lime Kiln Cafe, or McMillan's Restaurant, or even get a latte or an ice cream cone at the tent.

Mary,
Thank you for your lovely review! We are so glad to be able to host you and pleased that it was well-received. The charm of Roche as a place of relaxation and escape from busy, everyday life sure does wonders for the soul. We hope to have you back again in the future!

I have been to Roche a few times for the 4th of July, but have never stayed on property. WOW. The grounds were as stunning as always, but the staff stood apart. The service was truly NEXT LEVEL. I love the remodel at McMillan’s. The Maytag salad was delicious, as was the entire meal. Lesley is, and always will be, my very favorite waitress. Terrence was on point at the bar. I love the creative cocktails and the great conversations.

When I checked in Mackenzie, Robbie & Griffin were incredibly helpful. They had a very cool team vibe. They clearly work well together and care about their customers. It was refreshing. Whatever management is doing, they are doing well. I will look forward to my next visit and will stay here again. It was an exceptional experience. Well done.

We spent a couple of nights at the Hotel de Haro in the Roche Harbor Resort. The hotel is centrally located within the resort. This location makes it easy to get to restaurants, the marina, and various shops for trinkets, knick-knacks and other stuff. It also exposes the rooms to excessive street noise at night. The rooms are well appointed and modern, in a building that is otherwise ancient. Parking is conveniently located behind the hotel.

AngusDad,
Thank you for staying with us and for your review! There's nothing quite like a stay in the historic Hotel De Haro. While the building has been here since our inception, we do our best to keep the interior modern and friendly to 21st century amenities. We also offer a number of other lodging options more removed from the core of activities that would provide for a quieter nighttime experience. Thank you again and we look forward to hosting you again whenever you may be in the San Juans next!
