First, a caveat: there are stairs, so if you have mobility issues, this penthouse is probably not for you. Also, the access to the deck up top is more akin to a ladder than stairs. However, if those are not issues for you, I can't rave enough about Penthouse 2!

It was expensive, but it comfortably housed our family of 4. The kids traded off sleeping in the nook, (just off the family room, and not overly private) which has a couch that serves as a bed when you remove the back cushions. If you have kids who'd share a queen, they could both sleep in the 2nd bedroom.

The view from the family room was to die for -- a huge bank of windows gives spectacular views of the Harbor. The kitchen is roomy and well-appointed, with plenty of dishes and a dishwasher. The large refrigerator was great for storing the items we bought up at the King Market. Plus the hotel provides fruit, milk, and fabulous granola. I bought yogurt at the market and mixed in the granola for a quick and easy breakfast -- delicious. The room is steps from all of Friday Harbor. Once in a while, the noise from the streets was a bit loud, but many times it was quiet and peaceful. Many comfy places for everyone to sit and a great fireplace in the middle of the room. It was so nice to get back to the room after a day out. Also, if you go up to the balcony, the view is still terrific and noise from the street is greatly diminished. As noted, it's not super easy getting up to the rooftop deck, so I'd recommend bringing a small, insulated bag with you. Also, it wouldn't be that private if other guests had been out on their decks, but we never saw anyone else up there during our stay. Also note: the reception area is small and you might even miss it, as it doesn't look like those in a typical hotel, but would definitely stay here again!

Hello dschoenburg,

We couldn’t agree more – Penthouse 2 is an exceptional choice for a small family seeking the finest lodging INN Friday Harbor!

We’re delighted that your family enjoyed the Penthouse 2 views, equipped kitchen as well as the roof deck. As you noted, we’re located right INN the middle of all the action, making access to groceries, shops and restaurants nice and easy.

You’re spot-on with your tip on roof access, room access, as well as the location of our Welcome Room. All of our accommodations are accessed by exterior stairs and roof decks are accessed by ship’s ladders. Our Welcome Room is tucked-INN next to our parking garage entrance on Front Street. A little less conspicuous than most, but always offering a warm welcome!

Thanks again for your visit and for taking the time to share your experience. We can’t wait to welcome you back!

All the best,

The Island Inn ‘spectacular’ Ambassadors

Pent House was very inviting with plenty of windows bringing in the spectacular views of Friday Harbor. Accommodations were clean and everything was well managed from the moment we checked in. Pent House affords you your own private roof top patio. Happy our friend recommended Island Inn.

This was just the right retreat for our family. The rooms were like a furnished apartment. This is just what we needed at that point in our vacation. We went out for food a little and also got some things from the grocery around the corner for breakfast. The only quirk is that the bedroom for the studio below us was right under the family room in our studio. Even though we did nothing raucous, the guest below us wasn't happy one night. Oh well. Other than that, this was a great base for our exploration of San Juan Island.

Hello James M,

Thanks very much for your visit and for taking the time to share your experience. We’re delighted that you found Penthouse 6 to be the right place at the right time for your family!

Our location, smack INN the middle of Friday Harbor, combined with the equipped Penthouse kitchens, offers great opportunity for dining out or dining INN. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed both.

We look forward to your next visit!

The hotel is just a half block from the ferry dock and makes a perfect place from which to base an island-hopping vacation. It is a very modern hotel with very creative amenities that add to the interest and comfort. The rooms are arranged to be very private, almost like individual cottages. Our room had a spectacular view of the harbor, and I think most of the others did as well. The staff is over-the-top helpful and pleasant, and we loved our stay. They even had a small fruit tray in our room for us each evening. We appreciated the clever small touches, like tongue-in-cheek "do not disturb signs". Seems like a small thing, but it reflected their attention to detail and humor. .

We appreciate your visit as well as the time that you’ve taken to share your experience with us!

Crafting interesting and uncommon experiences that immerse our guests INN a getaway off the coast or ordinary is what we’re all about. While most of our accommodations offer the spectacular view that you enjoyed, we always recommend that guests have a look at the room detail pages on our website for our ‘view-o-meter.’ Views do vary quite a bit across our accommodation mix!

We’re most pleased that you found our team top-notch, appreciated all of our attention to detail, and our sense of humor. We love what we do and agree that every detail matters.

If you're thinking about staying here, don't hesitate to book a room. We stayed in suite 1 and 5 and the rooms were beautiful. The rooms are fully stocked with everything you could need (silverware, plenty of coffee, orange juice), and they even brought fresh fruit and granola in the morning.

The staff is great as well and Theo went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and was super helpful in providing local recommendations.

Room Tip: Suite 1 had a great view.
