After eating Pablito's tacos at the Friday Harbor Farmer's Market we were super excited to see that he was opening a year round place. Yay! We were there in the first couple of days and you could tell that they had just opened.
A couple of things: His food is really great. He uses as much local product as possible. He cares a lot about what he serves and with a place this young there are bound to be hits and misses. It seems as though they are really in the groove now. We found the portions to be a perfect size, frankly we ate at Mi Casita once and were sort of grossed out by the quality of the meat, the over abundance of rice and beans and the inflated prices to match.
Its kind of weird that a reviewer actually is bringing up the fact that the owner is not Mexican as if it takes away from the authenticity. Would that be the same thing as being upset that someone from Mexico was running a sushi bar or a hamburger joint?
Or course its going to cost a little more when you use local ingredients. Just like another local lunch place Market Chef has slightly higher prices than another sandwich shop. Because places like Pablitos and Market Chef can tell you where the meat came from and the rhubarb and the kale and even the potatoes.
I would eat at Pablitos and take friends there from out of town. It is delicious Mexican inspired quality food and I cant wait to see how the evolve and stick around.
Big ups to Pablitos.
