I was surprised to read the previous review of Pablito's - our experience was so different! We had lunch there in April and really enjoyed the food and the free-spirited approach to creative combinations in a "Mexican" format of tacos, empanadas, etc. The day we were there the special was pork adobo, not Mexican but delicious. Who would think of a rhubarb-based salsa for the tacos? But it was very good. Portions were not of the "stuff-yourself-with-all-you-can-eat" variety, but were sufficient for us, and we liked the local/organic sourcing, as well as the food.

Certainly not traditional Tex-Mex, but worth a try for the more adventurous.

We live in Friday Harbor and had been looking forward to this restaurant's opening for some time. We went there for lunch a few days after it opened, and sadly, we were not impressed.
First, even though the place is called "Pablito's Taqueria" -- a name which fairly screams "Mexican Restaurant" -- the owner was quite adamant about pointing out that it is NOT a Mexican restaurant at all, and that he is not Mexican either. Odd, but we were still hopeful.
Second, everything I ordered arrived cold. I had the sweet potato, potato, and chili taco and a chicken tamale with rice and beans. Okay, the food was flavorful, even interesting. But this was spoiled by the fact that even though there was only one other customer in the place and the kitchen is ten feet from the table where we were sitting, my food wasn't even luke warm when I got it. Luckily, my wife had a salad, whcih she said was good but nothing to shout about.
Third, the portions were tragically small and the prices way too high for what you get. About $10 for my puny lunch, which may not seem like a lot except that I had to go across the way to "The Bean" espresso café as soon as I was done and order something to fill me up -- and I'm not a big eater. So my lunch really cost me about $18.00.
Fourth, they do not serve chips. Don't even ask.
All in all, a disappointing meal which we will not be repeating. There are two other restaurants in Friday Harbor which serve more traditional Mexican cuisine, so if that's what you're after, we recommend "Mi Casita" where the food is reliable, the portions much more generous, and the menu a lot more complete.
