Owner description: The Whale Museum, located in beautiful Friday Harbor, Washington, opened to the public in 1979 as the first museum in the country devoted to a species living in the wild. Today, our museum continues to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research.

It is a small museum, but very well done and educational on various whales/ cetaceans, Native American relationships with them, as whale as the current environmental and population situation. Recommend for all ages, there are various methods of interpretation which engage all!

this museum has spent decades morphing into the fine exhibit it is now. If you find whales interesting...you will be able to spend the whole day here!

While this is not a museum you might see in a more urban setting it is very nicely done. Lots of exhibits that are, for the most part, well maintained. Would be great to take the kids to.

The best draw here is a whale skeleton mounted. The rest was somewhat interesting if you're into whales.

I was REALLY looking forward to visiting this museum and it more than met my expectations. I had a great time walking through and learning more than I expected at the whale museum. This is an interesting place with much information on whale history and conservation. I learned a great deal about Orca and other local animals. Both videos were interesting. Well worth the price to support this great venture.

I recommend a trip through the museum before you go whale watching and in the event that you are unable to do a whale watching trip due to weather or lack of whale cooperation in the area.

Also the gift shop has the best selection and most reasonable prices in town. Plus the purchases go towards supporting the museum. (Win win)
