We came for Earth Day Weekend to do a Great full day Whale Watch with Maya's Legacy Whale Watch and stayed here for the first time. I had always admired it as it was being built but never stayed. We loved it. We stayed two nights and cooked our meals here. The place is just lovely and the staff is very kind and accommodating. We each had our own room and the beds were very comfortable.
The decorating and design of these cabins is chic, yet rustic. There are nice touches such as the dining table base being made from an old sewing machine and a footstool made from a log. The fireplace is very interesting. It heats the cabin via the thermostat on the wall near the bathroom. When you turn it up the flames go bigger. We loved it. Also the cabin is filled with lovely Local Nature Photography, taken by Island Experts, Captain James Mead Maya and Alan Niles.
There is also an exercise room with a lovely view of the harbor above the front office.
The grounds are very well maintained and we noted a few snacks as well as butter and milk and eggs in the gift shop refrigerator for sale. Even the coffee they give you when they cleaned the cabin was local and good.
So, while my heart will always stay at Lonesome Cove, if you have a boat to catch and a splurge type budget do come stay at the Snug Harbor Resort.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the wifi was weak to nonexistent most of the time. That said, it was a good reminder to put the phone down and look at the lovely scenery.

Room Tip: We stayed in number 14 which had two bedrooms and we loved it.

Thank you for your very observant review. We worked hard on the little details and it is gratifying when they are noticed and appreciated. We are very aware of the wifi signal challenge. As we speak fiber optic cabling is being laid in our neighborhood and we hope to be up with 21st century speed by summer. We currently have the best we can get at our end of the island, admittedly, it does not meet guests expectations.
Thank you for trying us out. We hope you will return.

We came across Snug Harbor resort as we were researching places to stay and loved the idea of having multiple bedrooms for us and the kids and a kitchen to prepare our own food and save money on eating out. The staff was amazing and really helpful. They gave us recommendations for local hikes and helped get us set up with the onsite kayaks and canoes. The cabins were adorable and all of them had amazing views! We will definitely be back and would most definitely recommend to those looking for a great place to stay.

What a jewel of a find. Looking for lodging on San Juan Island for a family get together, I came across Snug Harbor. The staff was very helpful in going over the different room configurations as we would need 4 rooms some to accommodate small children and others senior adults. Amazing thought went into the design, site placement, finishes, furnishings and how well they were stocked with everything you would need. Right down to the Weber grills for each unit.

How refreshing to find the use of canoes, kyaks, etc was complimentary. No irritating resort fees. The setting of the resort is beautiful, the grounds were landscaped and maintained beautifully. There is a fire pit for guests to use down by the dock, and imagine, wood was provided (not sold) for guest enjoyment.

We look forward to returning to Snug Harbor in the future...a go to getaway on a beautiful island.

Room Tip: The two bedroom king at 800 square feet is a gem. The one bedroom to the left as you come into the resort is private and well situated.

Thank you for noticing!! We've tried very hard to include everything we would want in a place to stay in our cabins and get rid of all the things we found annoying in our travels, such as resort fees, extra charges for simple things, expensive gifts stores and on resort coffee. We appreciate your comments very much.

My husband and I stayed last weekend in a one bedroom waterfront cabin and we loved it. Cozy wood interior with a gas fireplace and enough of a kitchen for the two of us. A little nook dining table set by the windows is nice so you can look outside while eating or playing scrabble and enjoy the landscaping and the water. It's a small bay so there are no waves to listen to. On our second night it wasn't raining so we had a bonfire in the communal fire pit. Lots of chopped wood and kindling available so it was easy to do. We loved that and we enjoyed a bottle of wine bundled under a blanket the resort supplied. A wonderful place set in the beautiful nature of the Pacific Northwest with lots of hikes close by. And it was so quiet we had the most peaceful sleeps here. We will be back.
