We visit San Juan Island two or three times every year, and after discovering Friday Harbor House we have not stayed anywhere else. The great view, the location and the overall quality of the place cannot be beat. It is expensive, but it's worth it. The hotel's restaurant (The Bluff) is great, but we also can walk to several other very good restaurants for variety. And sitting on the lawn on the bluff overlooking the harbor, with a glass of wine, in summer, cannot be beat. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor of the main building (#31 to #36) have the best views. The second floor (#21...

The location can't be beat. The rooms were large and nice, but a little odd. Great staff.

You don't need a car if you stay here. It's a very short walk to the ferry docks and all of the shops and restaurants in Friday Harbor. The views are awesome and there are nice outside areas to sit with a glass of wine while watching the sailbaots and habor.

I think this place has gotten a little too popular for its size - for example, the breakfast area is cramped and always running out of things in the morning. But, the staff clealy works very hard to give you good service.

We had a nice, big two room suite which I would call perfect for a honeymoon except there was not king size bed. Layout was a bit weird with odd touches like a curtained window between the bedroom and bath.

If you love boutique hotels with great veiws, this is an excellent choice. Otherwise, you may find it significantly overpriced. I've paid less for much nicer rooms in even more expensive locations than this on several occasions.

Stayed at FHH for a long weekend before the 4th of July.
We flew in on Kenmore Air and the hotel was a short 3 block walk from the marina. Loved the view from our room (#36) and can't imagine a better view of the harbor from anywhere in town!
We sat for hours just watching the Ferries, seaplanes and boats come and go.
Enjoyed appetizers at the FHH happy hour twice and also the continental-style breakfast every morning. (could use a little variety from day to day...although it was very good, and was included in the room rate!) We rented a little Chevy tracker from Susie's Mopeds for a day, and drove all around the island. Made stops at American Camp, the Alpaca farm, the Lavendar Farm, English Camp, Roche Harbor for lunch and at San Juan Vineyards and we were still back in time for dinner at Vinny's (which was very good, and right next door). What a great day!
All in all, I would (and have) recommended to friends.
We'll be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a 3rd Floor Harbor view room. It's worth the few extra $.

The location is good for the town and ferry. Staff were all very helpfully and welcoming. The grass patio overlooking the harbour is great for pre dinner drinks and as a meeting place before the days adventures. Enjoy........

Convenient location. Room with musty smell and poor ventilation. Linens, shower, etc. just aren't the quality expected.

My partner and I have just returned home after a 3-night stay in this hotel. We were looking for a hotel we could walk to from the Victoria Clipper's dock. This one turned out to be perfect. You can see it clearly from the boat as you arrive. (Incidentally, you don't need a car to see the island. The town can be visited on foot from the hotel, and there is a very convenient bus service to the main attractions on the island.) We found Friday Harbor House to be friendly, ideally located, with surprisingly tasteful decor and comfortably sized rooms. We would recommend it wholeheartedly.

We stayed 9 nights in a room on the third floor overlooking the harbor. Floor to ceiling windows across the width of the room presented us with a stunning view of the harbor. Really, stunning. You can gaze out across the water toward the other San Juan Islands, watching the boats come and go. Sliding glass doors that let the wonderfully cool air into the room. Gas fireplace, TV, jacuzzi (with view of harbor). Fabulous room, loved everything about it.

The staff was exceptional. Check in was efficient, the room was ready and clean. The bar and restaurant staff is a lot of fun, made us feel right at home and offered us great guidance on where else to go including a great whale watching choice. Happy hour starts at 4:00 and not only do they mix an excellent drink, this is where you can enjoy happy hour specials and experience dinner. Eat here, it is all truly excellent. The food comes with a great view of the harbor and the opportunity to sit out on the back lawn and really soak in the view/atmosphere.

Kyle, the chef is also the innkeeper and excels in both pursuits while staying calm and taking the time to talk to guests.

The location can't be beat. It is 2 blocks away from everything (the marina, ferries, shops, bars, restaurants, island transportation, etc.) and an easy walk to the ferry. If you are pulling a suitcase, go up Spring Street one block and take a right on First Street to avoid the stairs. it is next door to the whale museum.

We really loved our stay and are trying to figure out when we can come back and bring more of our family to enjoy this with us!

Notes: There is a keurig coffee maker in the room with several k-cup options. Breakfast also comes with the stay, and is wonderful. Everything is freshly made and like everything else, is top-notch.
