The Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio
Ranked #6 of 358 Hotels in San Antonio

Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

First of all, I'm kind of a hotel snob (so my husbsnd says). That doesn't mean I always stay in expensive hotels, just give me a clean room and good service and its ALL good in my book. The Westin Riverwalk has always been my favorite hotel in San Antonio!! Just the way it smells when you walk in is delightful! I have actually bought on several occasions from their White Tea candle collections. Love it. Pricey tho!
The rooms are great! The beds are wonderful. We always get the river view.
The pool is small, but lovely. I really like the atmosphere. The staff is nice and helpful.
They do help as much as they can if you have little ones in tow. You can rent strollers if you forgot yours at home (we did).
It's just a great place to stay. Everything is within walking distance. Plus your further down the river from all the crazy nightlife activities. We have been to this hotel many times and will keep coming back. It's worth it!

Hotel is convenient to riverwalk, many restaurants , easy parking and access. Totally accessible. Excellent conference location with many attractions for attendees. Attendees can see Alamo with short walk, quaint stores with many food options. Airport shuttle provides easy access .

Stayed during a weekend conference. Absolutely beautiful hotel. Rooms were spacious, modern, and clean. Hotel amenities were nice, including pool. Location? Unbelievable - right on the Riverwalk in the most beautiful and romantic locales! (I wish my wife had been on this trip with me!). Restaurant downstairs, with outdoor seating right on the river - gorgeous. Locale to other hotels, Alamo, etc all within minutes. Try for Riverwalk view room, not just for the view, but also on other side of building, one can hear the buses late at night down on the avenue. Asking for a high floor would also help.

Highly recommended.

Our experience here for 2 days. We are SPG Plat and hence stay at many SPG properties. I will try to leave out the bad impression of San Antonio generally Riverwalk is basically like DisneyWorld (lots of fat drunk sweaty tourists).

Room-upgraded to 425 which was OK, next to the pool and gym, but a large, nice, clean room. We are allergic to feather pillows, which is in our Starwood profile and which 80% of Westins take care of prior to checkin. Despite the fact that the manager had time to call us a day before to welcome us, he didn't read the profile and we had feather pillows. We had to call THREE TIMES and had to wait OVER AN HOUR to get replacements. It was seriously ridiculous, being ready for bed but having to wait an hour because...why? Is it that hard to read the profile? (If you are going to have profiles, don't ignore them). To deliver a foam pillow?

Concierge-we asked the concierge for reservations at a specific restaurant. SHe said it would be no problem and called right there, but there was no availability until really late...something we knew from checking open table. I dont expect miracles, but sometimes a good concierge has some sway. Not here. So we asked for a rec for Italian, and we knew from Zagat and Opentable that the in-house restaurant was not very good, but it was the ONLY restaurant she could recommend. But hey, she gave us a coupon! SHe had NO recommendations, just pushed the menu book across the desk. So basically, why does the hotel need her, if her only service is recommending the restaurant in the hotel and handing you a book? Rating - ZERO.

Bar/Restaurant- Bar was OK. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks. Not acceptable. The restaurant was actually not bad. Not great, but food was good and service was OK. We asked the waiter for a rec and shocker, he recommended the most expensive thing and then when we pushed for other suggestions he went down each item and recommended every single one. Zero help. I won't remember anything about this meal by tonight, but it wasn't bad at all.

Pool/Gym - Pool and pool area are very small, lots of kids. No adult would want to or be able to relax there. Gym is nice with new machines (maybe 4 treadmills and some steppers), one set of dumbells, and one all purpose machine. Like the pool, probably too small for the hotel but it actually wasn't crowded either day.

Valet-Where are my tennis shoes? I don't know. I *do* know they were in the back seat when I valeted my car and they aren't there now. I'm VERY hesitant to accuse anyone of theft, especially a lame pair of year-old New Balance tennis shoes, but we played tennis right before leaving for SA and the placed the shoes in the back. We both remember seeing them there as we checking in. And when we went to play tennis the next day, they weren't there. So....there's that. I'm hoping maybe we left them in the room (I don't think so) or something else, but it's worht mentioning.

Overall, the hotel facility is nice, the rooms are Westin rooms, but the management is very subpar.

We live in San Antonio and wanted to go out to eat for Easter. We went to the Easter brunch at the Westin Riverwalk and it was fabulous. The food and service was great. We really enjoyed their brunch.

After visiting San Antonio and staying at the hotel for some days we truly can say that the rooms are excellent and the service outstanding, friendly and helpful. Sitting in ZOCCA in the evening - enjoying a cool Margarita and being a part of SA`s "night life" is a heartwarming experience!
The Hotel is a part of the beautiful Riverwalk and is perfectly located in the city!
The best way summarize it all; when possible - we`ll come back!
