“A comfortable hotel, near shopping area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

the staff at the reception desk are very nice and helpful, the hotel is comfortable, not luxurius but it has everything you need in a shopping trip, they have a shuttle from the apto to the hotel and also to take you to the North Star Mall and all around, so it is very convinient

I don't think Paris would be caught dead here and neither will I again. I am sure this was a nice hotel in 1975 but it is in need of some updating or a new name. The Doubletree by Hilton name does not belong on the front of this hotel unless Hilton is looking for a new image. The room is the size of a postage stamp but I have a wonderful view of the courtyard and so do all the people outside my room smoking. So my now non-smoking queen room is now a smoking room. Ive stayed in 35 dollar a night hotel rooms in the Philippines that were nicer than this humidor. Should we also have to pay for the priveldge of WI-FI in this oh so not posh hotel room ? Pass on this relic unless for some strange reason all the hotel rooms near SAT are booked.

Room Tip: Do not get a courtside room.

The hotel staff was very gracious and always helpful (and the cookies given to us upon our arrival was a sweet surpirse..they were delicious!) The only downside was the room was consistantly warm. In order to be comfortable at night, I had to put the thermostate on 55 and it was barely cool. Other than that, our visit at the Double Tree was excellent! The beds were very comfortable.

I am a loyal Hilton Honors Diamond member and have a good base of comparison for business properties.

Check in was slow and the front desk was improperly staffed at numerous times. The fitness center has equipment with torn grips making exercise uncomfortable at times.

Housekeeping failed to freshen the coffee area of the room, left trash and water in the ice bucket.

I am unlikely to use this place for my fall meeting this year. The Hilton and Embassy Suites are close and better choices based on this most recent experience.

First, let me say that the front desk staff is gracious and working hard to make everyone's stay enjoyable, and the room "looks" great. Unfortunately, staff goodwill can't keep up with the hotel's deficiencies.

We couldn't get the room temperature cool enough; it hovered around 72 degrees consistently despite turning the thermostat down to 64. And the fan blew day and night, no matter the temp. Family members reported the same issue in their rooms.

The roof leaked adjacent to the outer wall.

The breakfast at the hotel restaurant (a very substandard serve-yourself buffet) was $12! Bland scrambled eggs, sausages that tasted like sawdust, blech. The only edible items were the fresh fruit and toast. Not much for $12.

Potholes in the parking lot. If you're not watching where you're walking, it's treacherous.

I have to believe there are better options in San Antonio that this.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a room on the back side. There's a generator that runs 24/7

I stayed at this hotel back a few months ago and it was very warm and inviting. The lobby was great, it had a restaurant on site. There was also the executive floor for Gold and Diamond Hilton Honors members which had happy hour every night. I was very pleased with my stay. The location was great, it was close to alot of eateries and right off the highway. My room was facing the courtyard, and from the outside of the hotel, you can't even tell they have a courtyard in the hotel. The view was great, the beds were very comfy.

This hotel feels very old and definitely needs an updating. The rooms are OK, nothing special. The "executive" floor is just a different part of the building that you need key access to get into, the rooms are exactly the same. The executive floor breakfast is poor and has very little selection. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel except for the occasional low prices.

Room Tip: Don't waste money on the executive floor upgrade
