We went to San Antonio during the last week of Fiesta and stayed downtown. A note to anyone who does this - they shut down half of downtown SA for parades, etc., so GPS won't help you navigate normally to this hotel. Stop and ask directions :)

We arrived and parked the car in valet and didn't get it back out until checkout. Most downtown attractions are within walking distance (Rivercenter Mall, Riverwalk, Alamodome, the Alamo, Mi Tierras Restaurant, La Villita, etc.

We stayed on a concierge floor which was nice - free breakfast in the mornings and free snacks in the evenings. Our room had a great view of the riverwalk and we could see much of the downtown area. We loved being able to look out our window to see whether the parades had started yet before wandering downstairs.

The room was clean, had comfortable beds, and a large bathroom with separate toilet/shower area. This room was also very quiet as we had a hallway that led into the main room, blocking out any hallway noise we might have experienced.

We were pleased to see a safe in the room, but no refrigerator. For what we paid for the room, a small nook with a refrigerator and a microwave would have been nice. When you go out to eat in San Antonio, you always have tasty leftovers and you hate to leave them behind!

Check out was really fast. We checked out on our television, called down to have the valet bring our car around, and by the time we got downstairs, our car was waiting. The valet gave us perfect directions to get around all the construction and road closures and five minutes later we were on our way home. We will definitely stay there on our next trip to SA.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the concierge floor - worth the price for the view and free snacks and breakfast.

Thank you for your great review. I’m pleased to know your accommodations were to your liking and that valet took good care of you. As you found out, Fiesta is indeed a big event in San Antonio. The event holds a river parade, a day parade and a night parade scattered throughout the week so it does create a few challenges getting around the area (even for us locals!), but it is a much anticipated yearly event, rich in tradition. Thank you and please again soon.

My family and I stayed here 20 years ago on vacation. My wife chose to stay here for our 5 day getaway to San Antonio. First, because it is so very convenient to everything people come to the Riverwalk for: The Riverwalk is just outside the hotel; the hotel is connected to the large mall and the cinemas; all of the restaurants on the Riverwalk are within a beautiful stroll. I think that, of all the hotels on the Riverwalk, this hotel is the most conveniently located. The staff has been great. Only complaint is that the hot water can take a minute or two to hit the spigot. It may be an older hotel but it has been maintained superbly.

Dear 19jonesey54,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with everyone regarding your recent stay. It’s always great to hear from returning guests. I’m pleased to know you and your wife enjoyed your stay so much. As you mentioned, the Marriott Rivercenter is located among many shops and restaurants, but also quiet enough for a leisurely stroll. Thank you again and we look forward to another return visit.

Very disappointed with this Mariott. The room needed updated and the furniture was badly worn and dirty. The bathroom was small and original to the hotel. We were stunned! Unfortunately, everyone in the group we were with had the same experience.

This is an older Marriott and as other comments show it's not new. But it shows well and is modern. The location of this property right just a block from The Alamo and right on the Riverwalk. So everything is conveniently located, fantastic restaurants on the Riverwalk, connected to a mall of luxury retail stores. The concierge lounge had excellent perfectly prepared appetizers, the chef even came by to inquire how we liked them. Nice pool and workout facility. I would definitely bring my wife and family back to this hotel. One of the front desk clerks seemed to have a less than friendly attitude during check in but Laura from behind the counter stepped up and her charm and kindness made up for any bad first impressions. Thanks Laura! We will be back.

This was an OK stay in an aging hotel in a great location. The review is more about the billing issues surrounding our stay that their accounting has no interest in resolving to our satisfaction. The room we stayed in was nothing special and yet still cost $468.17 for a two night stay. Having paid this amount for the room they still leave a bottle of water in the room on a desk (no fridge available) and have the nerve to charge $3.50 if you use it. We were billed and did not in fact use the water but for that amount I was not even going to raise the issue. That charge is not the issue in this review but how many times does this happen.

Upon returning home there was a billing on our Visa for $56.29 CDN. (see below)

Apr 15, 2014 MARRIOTT 337J4 SAN RC F/BSAN ANTONI $56.29 which would include exchange
Apr 15, 2014 MARRIOTT 337J4 S ANTON RCSAN ANTONI $527.14 ($468.17 plus rate of exchange = $527.14)

It looked like a food and beverage charge but we did not use any of the other facilities in the hotel and this was not on our bill left under our door prior to checkout.

Numerous e-mails to the Marriott have resulted in no satisfaction and here is their final response. (cut and pasted from their e-mail)

Our Accounting Team stated that all our charges look the same and this one looks similar but spelt out differently. I would defiantly dispute this charge with your bank directly as it did not come from our hotel.

Visa will in fact deal with this charge on my behalf but I would have that Marriott might have dealt with the matter by reversing the charges as they in fact have or will be paid by Visa.

This is not what I would have expected from a large hotel chain. In the future I will be staying at places other than the Marriott and would advise travellers to this hotel in San Antonio to check their billings.

Visited for conference. Great location to Riverwalk, shopping and restaurants. Rooms showing some age but still nice. Some staff friendly and some mediocre. Food was good. Nice spacious lobby with several exits depending on where you are heading. Be sure to ask for a Riverwalk view at check in!!!

Check in was a breeze. Room was in excellent condition when I arrived and kept that way by the very friendly house keeping staff. I had a room near the River Center Mall and could hear some very relaxing local music from the river walk below. All of the staff that I encountered were great and very helpful with recommendations..

Hotel is in a very convenient location with easy access to the River Center Mall, The Alamo, The River Walk and the Convention Center. I can't think of a better location to stay in for a San Antonio trip.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a lower floor overlooking the River Center Mall.
