“Easygoing, charming and relaxing stay at this hotel!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Full disclosure - I first stayed at this hotel when it was "the newest hotel" in San Antonio back in 1986. You can imagine how surprised and pleased I was this latest stay when it was as charming as I had remembered it to be after all these years.

My check-in and check-out were handled expertly by Amanda at the front desk. Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely pleased to assist us, and very happy and proud of their hotel. I guess their enthusiasm spilled over to us, because it was a very charming and relaxing stay we had at the Marriott Riverwalk.

As far as all those complaints about small rooms and bathrooms - remember, the hotel is almost 30 years old. Rooms facing the Riverwalk have a balcony, so take that into consideration as extra space. Plus, the bathrooms aren't THAT "tight," unless you suffer from a slow thyroid gland.

Warning for any travelers to San Antonio - it is a popular "family" destination, so don't be surprised if you see lots of young families and rug rats all over the place, and not just in this particular hotel. Avoid the pool on the 7th floor unless you want to go deaf from all the kids screaming like little banshees.

FYI - If your floor has lots of little ones and you want to sleep through the night without hearing the incessant screaming and yelling, put the A/C on your favorite temp and set it to "FAN." Presto - instant "white noise," perfect for drowning out those pesky little "darlings" whose parents can't be bothered to discipline them.

All in all, it was a nice stay and I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor (above the 10th floor) facing the Riverwalk.

So my hubby surprised me with a night at this hotel. It's a great location and beautiful view of the river walk! They also offered valet which was a bit expensive but overall our stay here was nice. We will be coming back here for our anniversary!

I've been to San Antonio many times but had never stayed on the River Walk itself, so I decided to give this place a shot. I must admit that it was a little bit disappointing. The hotel itself is old, and many areas have a decaying feel to the,, especially the pool. You can tell the rooms have been renovated and have been kept current, so that part is enjoyable.
I decided to take the kids down to the pool and that was not as enjoyable. The pool is small, it was overcrowded, and the water was dark and cloudy, It definitely felt dirty if in fact it wasn't.
The hotel is located on one end of the Riverwalk so you're going to be walking quite a bit. It's not centrally located. The river walk is still fun, but you can stay somewhere cheaper, a few blocks away, and you're going to have as much fun, if not more, as in this place.

Thank you for posting your review. I am disappointed to hear that your stay was not what you hoped. Please accept my sincere apologies.

I’m sorry your family didn’t get to enjoy the pool. The pool area is certainly a very popular spot for families and sometimes it can get crowded.

Thank you again for taking valuable time to provide your feedback

I stayed at the mariot last week on Thursday. I gave them a cash deposit for amenity's. they still ran my card. cost me a lot of fees because it is a prepaid card. I could not book another room. or anything, it really screwed me up. they did not do anything and it is going to be a month before I get my money back. they were rude to me and treated me like oh well. sorry. I told them not to do that. that is why I gave them cash, They were just rude and did not care. its been over a week and I have not go anything back or any responses from anyone.

The Marriott Riverwalk is a little older of a hotel, but the location is great. It can be busier because its right across the street from the Convention Center and bus terminal, but overall, at night it's pretty quiet. Each room has a balcony, but the bathrooms are TIGHT. Enough room for one and yet traveling with a family of four. The hotel rooms and bathrooms need a little updating but they were clean. A/C was loud and it was either hot or freezing all night long. The 7th floor hosts an indoor rec room w/a pool table and ping pong tables. Pool is an indoor/outdoor pool. This hotel is right above the Riverwalk where there are a ton of restaurants to please every palette. The Alamo is 2 blocks away and there are a lot of quaint little local shops around.

The location of this hotel is excellent for sight seeing Riverwalk (it is on riverwalk) and the Alamo. It is also directly opposite the Grand Hyatt and conference center.

The rooms were clean and ample, and the higher "riverwalk" facing floors have plesant little balconies.

The starbucks inside the hotel is useful and can take Starbucks cards for you points collectors.

The business center was a touch expensive for just printing, but the health club facilities were really good.

Overall the location achieves above standard for this room, and I would say the service is good, marginally above average.

Room Tip: Request high floor (20th floor plus ideally) facing riverwalk for the best views but be aware that t...

The hotel seems aged and a little worn down.

You can't beat the location however. Right in Riverwalk district and walking distance for everything. Service here is typical Marriott which is always good. Nice staff. I liked the bar and work out room. Rooms were more up to date than I expected as well considering the worn look on the outside. Hey it's got character. The staff and location made the stay.
