“Good gateway to San Antonio”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013

This hotel is in a perfect location for a walking vacation. The rooms and baths are a bit dull, but the beds are amazing and comfortable, excellent flat screen TV. The main suggestion I would make about the rooms is that the balcony needs updated. When you are in the room you want to sit outside and take in the riverwalk, however the outdoor furniture is cheap and the concrete walls and floors are dirty and broken. Another think that was irritating is that the furniture had a large space for a refrig but it was empty.

The hotel needs more elevators, but the common areas are nice, comfortable and well kept. Again, the main suggestion I have is that the outdoor space past the lobby and bar, overlooking the riverwalk, is not very comfortable, clean or nice for outdoor relaxing. The hotel staff was excellent except for one lady who was not happy we were drinking a beer outside while we waited hours for our room to be ready.

Room Tip: pick a room that looks out on the riverwalk, as far up as possible

My wife and I booked a last minute trip with our Marriott points for spring break weekend (we're gold members). First let me say it's a property that was built in the 70s so it has some issues. The self park spaces under the hotel are a nightmare, but we thought we would save a few bucks (it's $25 a day to self park, which is outrageous for San Antonio). The garage has dead ends, so you have to end up backing out. The lobby is small and for spring break it as packed. As usual with Marriott great people. Our room was on the river side (highly recommended) on the 10th floor and had a great view. There are better places on the river (the Hyatt and the Drury Inn) but not bad. Room layout is nice. You don't walk by the bathroom on your way in. Bathroom was small and needed some remodeling. Looked for the refrigerator and there was none for my wife's medicine. No refrigerator? Nope. Big stain in the middle of the floor where it looks like someone dropped a bottle of red wine. Hmmmmmmm. All in all, not bad, especially for free but I would be concerned to pay $225-250 a night for this.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the river side. It's worth the extra bucks.

I recently stayed at the Riverwalk and had a decent experience. The location is very conveniently located if you have business at the convention center and it's just steps away from the Riverwalk. It's also just a short walk to the Alamo and other tourist attractions. The only negatives are that even on the higher floors (I was on the 17th) the noise from the street level was enough to require ear plugs. On a Sat night you could hear all the bands, crowd noise, and traffic like you we're on the ground floor. The rooms themselves are a bit dated, but had the most comfortable hotel bed I'd ever slept in. I would consider staying here again, but would try an even higher floor to escape some noise.

This hotel is definitely older than its sister hotel which is right across the street. We chose to stay here because the price was right for a spring break family get away, and we wanted to be right on the River Walk. The location was amazing because we could walk everywhere we needed to go. We never used our car while we were here. We walked up and down the River Walk and to the Alamo which is less than a block away. One major disappointment with the hotel was that the booklet about the hotel states that there is a whirlpool and a dry sauna on the 7th floor, but we found out the hotel does not have a sauna or a whirlpool. It has a very shallow pool that is half inside and half outside. There are some nice sitting areas around the pool and a ping pong table. We were disappointed that the Executive Lounge was not open on Friday as they considered Friday to be part of the weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a River Walk view since only 1/2 of the rooms overlook the river.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a conference in San Antonio. The rooms were adequate. Like the previous poster said it's all about the location. Make sure you ask for a room with a view of the River and downtown. Looking out the other directions is useless.

The Marriott Riverwalk in San Antonio is a decent hotel but not prepared for high traffic. Parking is very expensive, $28 to self park and $33 to valet plus tax plus gratuity. Check in was quick and easy the room we chose had a fold out couch and provided a pack n play in addition to a nice comfy King bed. The rooms are clean but bathroom had one sink and no counter space. Very outdated bathrooms very generic. Every staff member was extremely professional and courteous and helpful. The hotel is located with direct access to the Riverwalk and the mall. Our particular room had a lot of street noise and the suites (which we had) only have a view of the highway according to a staffer. You would hope a suite would have a preferable view. The wifi room charge is $12.95 /day, hotels should offer this free of charge because it makes customers feel further nickel and dimed on top of an already overpriced hotel room and overpriced parking options. The $26 buffet was right in par with your typical overpriced buffet add taxes it's $30 for breakfast luckily ours was part of our room package. This hotel has nothing unique or special it's a very typical generic traditional hotel with a good location as it pertains to the Riverwalk. If you are going to SeaWorld I would recommend a hotel close by SeaWorld (we were 25 minutes away by car) and if nightlife is your main objective I would recommend a hotel near the Riverwalk. Because of the high traffic and a poorly designed loading and unloading circular driveway, we had to wait 35 minutes to drive 100 feet just to get into the unloading area, the garage was full it was a circus. Room service menu was great though and the food was excellent. Next time we visit we will stay somewhere else.

Have just paid $1000 dollar phone bill after staying at this hotel. Rip off or what. Rates are not made clear. Will NEVER use a phone in a hotel room again. Very poor mobile phone or no signal. Not a good place to travel to.

Room Tip: Don't use phone in room.
