We travelled with the in-laws and my 2 yr old child. We got an excellent rate. The 2 rooms were connected which was extremely conveneient for the baby. Our room was very spacious with 3 (yes 3) small balconies. Location is awsome. Right in the middle of everything. A bit noisey but what would you expect when staying at any downtown. We parked the car at the next door parking lot. We picked the car 2 days later since everything was around the block! Try the restaurant for dinner. The steak is awosme and the view on the river walk is great.

My husband and I stayed at La Mansion for our 3rd wedding anniversary (when making our reservation, I let them know that it would be our anniversary), and it was one of the most romantic weekends we've had! The hotel is beautiful, the staff was attentive, and our room was exactly as depicted on the website!

We parked in the garage directly across the street, which is less expensive than the hotel's valet service. The lobby is lovely, and the young woman at the registration desk was gracious and enthusiastic, and wished us a happy anniversary as she handed us our key cards. I'm sure there was a note in her computer about our special occasion. She informed us that our concierge’s name was Rick, and that he would be able to help us with any needs.

We had a river view room on the 2nd floor. I read a review earlier complaining about the halls being too hot & stuffy, but we didn't feel that way at all. The halls were warm (esthetically, not temperature wise) & welcoming, with the occasional antique chair to perhaps wait on your friends, and romantic soft lighting from old world sconces on the walls. Our room was lovely! Warm reds, creams, greens and earth tones, a rustic brick wall, and the furniture was old world, rustic, and of dark wood. To my surprise, there was a tray on the desk with a pitcher of margarita, glasses, a basket of chips, & a bowl of salsa! There was also a note that said “Happy Anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. *****! Please enjoy as you relax before dinner. Welcome to La Mansion, Rick” We enjoyed our drinks out on our balcony (the little chairs weren't comfortable, so we pulled out the big cushioned chairs from inside the room), and relaxed as we people-watched. We had an amazing dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, “Las Canarias.” Our server was gracious, friendly, and very knowledgeable, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was intimate and romantic. We had a table next to a window, over looking the Riverwalk.

We woke early the next morning, went for a walk along the Riverwalk, and stopped for coffee in a café along the way. Returning to the hotel, it was still a little while before breakfast, so we got the books we’d brought and went down to the quiet courtyard to relax with our coffee at a table next to the pool. Breakfast was the Sunday Champagne Brunch Buffet in Las Canarias, and as it was October 31, the theme was Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican holiday celebrating the lives of loved ones who’ve passed on. Being a restaurant, they were celebrating Julia Child, who had recently passed away. Part of the buffet was dedicated to her, and the rest of the buffet was unlike anything I’ve seen before. Just incredible! And delicious!

Our whole experience was wonderful. I must apologize for my less than perfect photos, but hopefully you can get a little idea of what it was like. I would (and have) recommend this hotel to anyone! My parents stayed there recently, and they loved it as well.

If you want to savor the Riverwalk experience, there is no better place to stay.
We almost stayed somewhere else after reading these reviews, which would have been a mistake.
Yes, the hallways are warm in summer, but did you go to San Antonio to sit in the halls?
Average elevator wait? 34 seconds (yes, I timed it)
Noise was a non-factor for us and we were there during games 6 and 7 of the NBA finals
Staff was excellent
Specific tips
1) when reserving a room, ask for one that doesn't have a shared balcony
2) spend the extra bucks, get a Riverwalk View. No hotel on the river has a better one.
3) Save by parking across the street
4) Take advantage of the free use of the Watermark pool and exercise facility located just across the river.

La Mansion is a beautiful hotel with some beautiful rooms. Our room was opposite the main building, and it was quite large for a hotel room.

So why the low score. The hallways were unbearably hot and the one elevator was so slow that you worked up a good sweat waiting for it.

The other thing that really makes this hotel one that I would not return to, was the mini bar policy. If you touch or move things on the mini bar and do not replace it by 20 seconds you get charged for the item. I was scared I would wake up in the night and knock some of the items off that were literally perched on top of the bar and get charged. No problem, if you want them removed, you can pay $20 for the privelge of not worrying about it.

I found the staff, with the exception of the valets, indifferent.

The pool was small and there was no hot tub. After paying $25 Valet, I wish I had stuck with the Westin, as it is far superior in every way.

This hotel was awesome. The First Night we were there we were kind of upset with the noice of the room and the how the air conditioning was not cooling off cold enough. We told the front desk and they moved us to another room and also upgraded us to a room with a pool side view! The service here was so good, they do exactly as you say. When we got moved to our new room the ice box was not on, we called the front desk they called mantiance and it was fixed. For our troubles they gave us a free bottle of champagne. Now thats what I call serivce!!!!!!

The room was very small as well as the bathroom. The pictures of it on the website were not what we paid for. For the money, I would have rather stayed off the riverwalk or in another hotel in a really nice room. The a/c leaked on us and on the floor making for a wet spot, not cool for one's socks. You pay more for a snobby atmosphere, a tiny pool, than amenities.

this place is phenomenal! i have never seen a hotel that has such a high level of service. everyone from the check-in person to the manager treated us like the president. (who by the way has stayed here) it's location is perfect (right on the riverwalk) the rooms are spacious and well stocked with high dollar toiletries. the restaurant was great and one of our meals was comped due to it not being warm enough. overall excellent
