“Perfect lodging for SeaWorld vacation!”
Reviewed April 19, 2009

My husband, daughter, and myself just spent two nights here, attending a dance competition at SeaWorld our daughter performed in, and I have nothing negative to say about this resort hotel. I am a Platinum Gold Passport member. Everything from check-in to check-out went smoothly. Staff are exceptional from front desk, bellman, restaurant to cleaning staff, and each request was handled professionally, cheerfully, and very promptly. Our room was spotless, and the mini fridge and room safe were a nice touch which we used. My advanced requests for extra towels and robes were taken care of before our arrival. Ordered room service twice... the angus burgers, desserts, and our breakfasts were very good, and food arrived at promised time. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well-kept. Parking was tight, though, given there were lots of guests. However, we never were without finding some place to self-park. SeaWorld is but a mere 5 or so minutes away. We will be back next time just so our daughter can enjoy more of SeaWorld! The only caveat I would say is that this is a family-oriented, family-friendly property, so if you are looking for a couple-only getaway, you may want to come during an off-season time. The hotel resort amenities are nice and would be enjoyed by couples; just beware that there will be young children staying as well. Our stay was not in the summertime, though, so the property was not absolutely dominated with children. However, there was a huge business convention being held here during our stay, and so the property was filled with LOTS of adult business guests! Nonetheless, the staff was obviously up to the task of taking care of things. All said, the Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa is a very nice property, and we were very happy with our stay there planning as well a return.

I'm kidding. Sort of :-). My husband, our 7-year-old son and I stayed at the Hyatt during Easter break '09. I was a little concerned about the number of kids there after reading some of the reviews. However, our son's school break (week of 4/12) was apparently the week AFTER most everyone else's school break. We got there on a Saturday night. Easter Sunday was crowded but after that day, the resort was basically empty. We loved that. We were there till Friday 4/17.

THE RESORT: It is HUGE and the property is VERY NICE. The weather was great except for one rainy day on our last full day (it was mostly in the 80s during the day). Floating down the lazy river pool was LOVELY. However, the water was COLD! My husband and son had no problems going in. I just stayed on top of my inner tube. There's also a hot tub near the big pool. Side note: We've stayed at the Hyatt in Bonita Springs, FL, where there are great pools as well, including a lazy river pool. We liked Florida's lazy river pool better (it's just prettier).

THE ROOM: We got it through Priceline so we got a great deal. We were in the 400-block on the 4th floor. Our room was a standard Hyatt room. Nothing special but nice enough. There was a small balcony with a view of trees. The timing for room cleaning varied. The first couple of days, they'd come in the afternoon. Towards the end of the stay, they'd come to clean in the morning.

THE RESTAURANTS: We only ate the Springhouse Cafe and Papa Ed's Pool Bar & Grill. We also had room service a couple of times. We thought the fajitas (cafe), quesadillas (pool bar), chicken wings (room service), apple bread pudding (room service), chocolate mousse cake (room service) were great -- the cheeseburgers with fries (pool bar) were just okay -- and the chicken caesar salad (cafe), bbq brisquet sandwich (room service) were not good. They have a pretty good children's menu.

SPA: I had a 60-minute relaxing massage. It was GREAT.

THE STAFF: No complaints. Everyone we encountered was really nice and helpful, especially the waitresses at the Springhouse Cafe.

RESORT MISC: It is about 30 minutes away from the airport. It is a 20 to 25-minute drive to downtown San Antonio. It is a 10-minute drive to a Target, I-Hop and TGIFriday's.

OTHER THINGS: It was our first time in San Antonio. We loved the Riverwalk. If you're into people watching then this is the place for you! :-). We had dinner at Boudro's (my food was very good, my husband's was just okay) and Paesanos (VERY GOOD for both of us). We did the obligatory river boat tour (loved it!). We checked out the Tower of the Americas (our son was dying to take the elevator to the top), the King William District (some beautiful homes there!), and the Alamo of course. We did rent a car for our entire trip.

Have a great time in San Antonio if you decide to go there!

My husband and I just returned from the resort. Children were everywhere. One had to watch where you walked so that you would not run into the little ones or the older ones not run you over. Our room was on the ground floor with a patio so that we could watch the birds and just enjoy the scenery. The room itself was average and really not up to expectations. The mattress was a bit soft on my side, not my husbands. I had to call housekeeping a few times to be replenished on toiletries. Then when they did arrive there was no body lotion. On the upside the grounds are beautiful and well taken care of, service in the restaurants excellent. We had the same waitress for breakfast all four days (at our request) and therefore I think we got a bit more attention. Golf course is great. Couldn't have asked for a nicer one. I recommend getting a tee time for after 2pm as it is almost 1/2 price. Would we stay there again, I don't think so, just because of all the children, not that I don't like children, but this was a celebration of our 40th anniversary and was hoping for a little quieter place.
One other thing-there is a $15/day resort fee, but you are charged for internet service and the business center as well. Don't really know what we got the the $15 other than wonderful grounds.

We spent a day here before heading to SeaWorld. Checkin was fine. Paying a high price so you expect good service. Pool areas and lazy river were clean, lots of tubes to be had. The only down side was that the water was FREEZING. IT was in the low 80s and breezy, but you could not stay in the water longer than a few minutes. Kids included. The hot tub was a welcome retreat. Bikes were available, although we saw several sitting outside peoples rooms and not being used throughout the day while we waited for some to be returned to ride. Drinks were of course outrageous, but yummy and we were on vacation so did not mind splurging. The burgers at the Country Store by the pool were fine and convenient. Would return in the heat of the summer for a better pool experience.

We just returned from a stay at the Hyatt Hill Country and were very happy with it. (The kids were sad they had to leave!) They have bikes for the whole family to ride, nature trails, golf, large rooms, GREAT pools. Lots of kids and very family friendly. We didn't use the spa but I'm sure it was great too. Very relaxing atmosphere and nice, well trained staff. The food and drinks by the pool was a little pricey, but convenient. They had s'mores two nights we were there by the pool. The kid's spa wasn't open, think it's a summer thing.
One note, we booked through hotels.com and they assured us we could have a roll away in the double room I booked. I called and talked to the hotel one day before we left and they said they couldn't guarantee a roll away because they might all be checked out. When we checked in the lady told me that they couldn't even put a roll away in the double rooms because of fire codes but she would upgrade us and we did get a nice big room with a separate bedroom for us and a pull out couch and roll away for the kids. Very nice and spacious. The package we had gave us two free breakfasts every day, and although the buffet was nice the menu items were VERY good and we learned that they were better. We ate dinner only one night there and must admit it was the best meal we had in San Antonio. Fantastic tuna steak and chicken gnocchi. The kids meals (especially breakfast) were cheap and good. We didn't get a chance to try the more upscale restaurant but assume it must be great too . Very close to Sea World also. We will definitely go back!

We visit the Hyatt Hill Country each year. It is so relaxing. There is something for everyone to do. We always come away refreshed. The grounds are very neat and homey. The rooms are a little small - especially for the price. However, there is so much to do outisde that we spend very little time in the room. The lobby is gorgeous and like a huge ranch house. We spend time in the lobby at night playing games. We enjoy the Hyatt every year - it's like going home each time we visit.
