We love gorditas and have had them across the southwest. A couple of years ago, we had the best gorditas at a mexican food stall at "El Mercado" in San Antonio. We made a detour this year to stop to have gorditas at Dona Tota. Although there were a lot of choices of fillings and the ones we tried tasted good, the gorditas were terrible. They were small, tough and tasteless. They did not taste like they were deepfried because there was no crunch or any of the rich fried taste. There are no add ons like lettuce, tomatoes or even cheese. They were like eating leather coasters with tasting meat filling. We were disappointed and won't come back because if you don't care for the gorditas, there is no other choices on the menu except a couple of sides (rice & beans).
