“Honeymoon”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

My husband and I stayed at this B&B Inn on the Riverwalk for our honeymoon,we are both in our 60's,and enjoy sitting out on porch in mornings and watching joggers, ducks, and people walking.
Just a short walk down the riverwalk to all the action, plenty of places to eat.
It was a very good choice,we never had to move the car and pay for parking in San Antonio
Quite,clean enjoyed a lot!

We chose this place for our wedding night. It looked nice and romantic online but it was nothing like that. When we showed up there was a closed sign on the door with our room keys in an envelope. We didnt feel welcomed. The room smelled strongly of cleaner. The hot tub had hair in it and it wouldn't turn off. It was also a noisy hot tub. Our room was supposed to have a sunset view but we had a view of a parking garage. There was no one on staff to help us when we needed to find something to eat. The building was old and a gap on our balcony door. The radio, lights, and tv wouldn't turn on. We paid almost $400 for one night. It was REALLY overpriced. The next night we stayed at the Valencia for a quarter of the price and they had superior service and rooms. Don't stay at the Inn. We were very disappointed!

My friend and I booked and were assured a first floor room in the main house because I have had recent back surgery and my friend can't do stairs well. Upon arriving we were told that our room had been given away. We were instead sent across the street to the 122 house. Staff doesn't help with luggage, so we pulled our luggage down and up curbs, along a very unkempt gangway, and up very run down, seep, and uneven wooden deck stairs to the top of what appeared to be an attic. The room wasn't bad, but the bathroom is tiny and the sink is out in the bedroom. There was an old closet with 4 hangers and a door that would not stay closed unless the wastebasket was set in front of it.

The bathroom had full economy size bottles of shampoo and conditioner for "dry and frizzy" hair, the coffee we used in the coffeemaker was never replaced, The bed linens were never changed, and except for a very narrow shelf under the mirror there was no place to set our makeup and other toiletries. This balcony at the top of the stairs had several very sick looking fake plants and wicker furniture that was badly tattered. All of it appeared to have been outside for at least 5 years straight.

I saw numerous safety violations. The tiny fire extinguisher mounted low in a corner behind a wire bookcase had no inspection tag on it. I noticed it only when I retrieved something I dropped. Those deck stairs (another visitor posted a photo of them here) were slippery after rain and the traction strips were worn slick. In the main house, one front door was marked "Emergency Exit Only" but was completely blocked from the outside by a wrought iron table with a heavy marble top. Nobody could exit through that door very quickly.

The main house was very nice and the breakfasts were hot and tasty. The downside is that it's only served from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, so forget any hopes of early starts. The lobby bathroom is extremely cramped and the faucets are loose.

Next time I visit San Antonio, I'll stay in a regular hotel. This experience at Inn on the Riverwalk has soured me on Texas B&Bs.

Room Tip: Find other accommodations.

We stayed at the Inn on the Riverwalk for two nights (one weekend). The value for your money is excellent, compared to other expensive hotels by the river. 10 min walk to the San Antonio Riverwalk, very centrally located. The staffing was very kind and helpful. The room was clean, tidy and very nicely decorated. We would love to come back and would recommend everyone going to SA to stay at the Inn on the Riverwalk!

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden room. A very cozy, old-style (newly renovated) room. Very relaxing!

I do not like to give average reviews since i know how much they affect a business. BUT we booked this location based on the reviews and found it average at best. We even booked two rooms, one for our children and one for us. We never met the owners. Breakfast was cooked well in advance and micro waved. French toast, Pancakes all piled in a bowl and cold. They did nuke the eggs and bacon. We made coffee in our room and the pot was never cleaned nor new clean cups added. When you book an Inn over a hotel you hope for a bit more attention to details. The room was clean and the staff was friendly enough but as I said, Nothing Special. No one gave us a second glance though we were in town for 3 nights.

This was our second stay here, the first one being about three years ago. Although I am used to the comforts from chain hotels from my frequent business travels, I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this B&B. The owners and staff are so friendly, helpful and accommodating and make you feel like part of their family. The rooms are quaint, clean and comfortable. They have air conditioning and ceiling fans, which is nice for those warmer days. The breakfast is made for you when you are ready and was always hot and delicious.

The locations was good and easy to get to. We walked a few minutes along the river to get to the popular part of the Riverwalk and never felt unsafe. A few minutes walk in the other direction took us to nice residential areas. Mornings and Evenings on the porch were always a must for us. It is a lot more homey than staying in hotels.
