“Execellent location!”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

We found our recent stay at the Yellow Rose B & B to be quite nice. The location is GREAT. We opted out of breakfeast due to pricing and impersonality. Our room was a good value at $120 per night, but a continental breakfast (yogurt, juice and lemon bread) was not. We found a delightful tea room right around the corner that was much better and more filling (THE MADHATTER) or opt for GUENTHER HOUSE, which is about two blocks away. We stayed for five and got no break on our room. The host, Deb, said they offered several breakfast options delivered to your room (at additional costs). We are used to breakfast being included, thus the name B & B, and look forward to speaking with other guests in the dining room at an appointed hour. With interaction of others, one gets an idea of what to do, where to go, eat, attractions, etc., which we have always found helpful. I will say the room was comfortable and King William Historic district is the place to stay. We walked ALOT, but that was okay! I would recommend maybe 2-3 days in San Antonio, 5 is really too many, at least without a car!

Room Tip: We stayed in a downstair room and heard every footfall upstairs, all night long! An upstair room may...

I booked a stay here for a few days after my wedding, and it could not have been better! Deb was a gracious host who offered personal yet unobstrusive service. The house is in fantastic shape, the rooms tastefully and thoughtfully decorated. Everything was very comfortable, from the bed and furnishings to the terry cloth robes.

You are given a choice of receiving no breakfast, a continental breakfast, or a full hot breakfast. The continental was ample and is stocked in your room ahead of time, but you really ought to try the hot breakfast if you are so inclined. We had breakfast enchiladas one day and a bacon, cheese, and spinach quiche the next, both of which were amazing. The meals include fresh bread or pastry, fruit, cereal, and coffee from a french press.

The house is located in a lovely and quiet neighborhood with lots of good restaurants in the surrounding blocks. The location is also an easy walk to the heart of downtown.

Overall, this was one of the best places I have ever stayed. The price was a good or better than any of the major hotels, and the quality was second to none. I highly recommend A Yellow Rose.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Bordeaux Room which has a great 4 post bed, a small breakfast area, a couple of com...

We liked our first jaunt to the YRBB so much we decided to return...and it's become one of our fave places to retreat in SA! We stayed in the Magnolia Room last time - which is still our favorite room, so we call dibs next time LOL - and were in the Bluebonnet Room this time. Bluebonnet is upstairs, which is probably more ideal for those wanting to hide out a little more, but it's a smaller space (not by a lot though) and had a smaller TV in it. We didn't watch a whole lot of TV though, so it didn't matter a ton :D

We walked over to Madhatter's Tea for breakfast Friday morning, which is fast becoming a ritual. It's two short blocks away, and the walk back from breakfast can meander and be a lot of fun through that part of the King William district. Our hosts were hospitable as usual; all was in order and communication is easy and prompt.

It feels like someone basically hands you the keys to a great hideaway and says "enjoy yourselves". It's a hidden gem right off the beaten path, and we'll be back again for sure!

Room Tip: If you want more privacy and a little less noise, ask for the Bluebonnet Room or the other upstairs...

Our stay at the Yellow Rose was fantastic. From our checkin with the proprietors until we checked out everything was great. It was located in a great historic area less than a 10 minute walk from the downtown and Riverwalk but nice and quiet at night. We were also right near the river walk trail and found our way down to bike ride. We fell in love with the outdoor bar down the street "The Friendly Spot" where we found great beer choices and could watch sports and movies on their projector all day. We also really enjoyed our breakfasts at Tito's and Mad Hatter's right down the block. It was also quite convenient for walking to the riverwalk and hemisfair park.

The room itself was fantastic. It really felt homey with the chaise chairs and arge four post bed. Everything was super clean and though we forgot to book the actual breakfast, we enjoyed the provided drinks and snacks. The neighborhood was also great as it was very quiet at night. The owners were very helpful and friendly, and always seemed to be around the property, but not in any way infringing on your privacy. I also really liked their 4 dogs, all of which they had rescued locally.

A Yellow Rose is a wonderful B&B in a lovely district where you can either spend a lovely night in with some wine and feel at home, or a convenient base for venturing out into the town.

Thank you again for making out trip so wonderful!

We loved our stay at A Yellow Rose, the location is walking distance to the riverwalk or a $5 cab ride. The Bordeaux Room was lovely, you get the BnB feel with a great sense of privacy not always found at a regular BnB. I would recommend thier "full" breakfast, it was delivered to our room and simply delicious! There was so much food we were full for day. Ample room for parking so you are off the street as well. During our stay, we only contacted Deb once for a request and she was quick to assist us. I highly recommed A Yellow Rose and we look forward to our next visit!

We found this B & B extremely charming and well appointed. The Bordeaux Room was absolutely charming. The neighborhood is breathtaking in terms of the homes and overall atmosphere. Mad Hatter's, one block away, was a great breakfast find even if the service can be a little bit quirky. The Yellow Rose itself is steeped in architectural history and while the stairs might be a little challenging if you have heavy luggage, the rooms and porch were just lovely. Sometimes B&B's are over the top for me in terms of being too cute. Not this one. Elegant and charming.

Room Tip: The Bordeaux Room was the one we stayed in and it really did look just like what was shown on the we...

When we pulled up, we noticed that there were a LOT of BnB's on the street...we counted four in one block alone! As we pulled in to the gate and parked, Deb (the proprietor) was right outside to greet us. The room we stayed in was fantastic; very homey and yet nice touches (coffee press, fridge, satellite TV) that made it feel like we didn't have to rough it at all.

We took in the Broadway Bistro for dinner, which is a short five-minute drive through downtown and down Broadway; music was great and food was excellent. It rained out our Saturday evening plans even though Deb's husband lent us an umbrella (note: the Overtime Theater has MOVED, and we don't know WHERE!?), but we went back to the room early and had a much better time there I think ;)

The morning saw a short walk to Madhatter's Tea for breakfast; a two-block walk and a scrumptious brunch worth going back for. Walked around the neighborhood a while and then went back to relax for the rest of the morning. Easy check out (basically "see ya!") and off we went. The price was very competitive to the BnB's in the neighborhood, and the stay was fantastic. A great staycation that I'm sure we'll do again. Thanks to Yellow Rose for making things superb!

We had a fantastic time

Room Tip: There are rooms on the first and second stories - we had a first. Request a ground-level room if yo...
